I've been a big fan of your show for a long time but specifically of Doug
Buffone. I've gone to his on-air appearances at various venues over the
years and I've really appreciated his love for the Bears, his fire and his
undying support of the team.

Your negativity recently has switched me over to listening to AM 1000.
North, you need to re-evaluate your approach to this team because I know of
at least 4 other guys who have done the same thing as me. Your attacks and
constant whining about Jerry Angelo and this new coaching staff has
disgusted me. Frankly, he's done a very good job in my estimation. It's
not that I can't take the fact that we disagree on this issue, I've
disagreed with you over the years literally hundreds of times. What forced
me to jump ship and start listening elsewhere was the manner in which you've
inaccurately portrayed Jerry's record with your laundry list of his
failures. You and I both know that list is littered with things that can be
looked at BOTH ways. You're not even giving him and his guys a chance to
succeed before you judge them. That's unfair.

More important than any of that is the way Doug appears to have been beaten
down by your efforts. He's not the Doug I've enjoyed listening to over the
years. It's really sad.
Goodbye guys. AM 1000, as it turns out, is a pretty nice alternative.

Did it sound like this? " I know we still suck, but as God as my witness,
the Bores will never go winless again!"

"Thanks Scarlettdog, but quite frankly, the Packers don't give a damn."

THe problem is that the Afternoon Show on ESPN 1000 is not a whole lot
better ... I listen only because North irritates me too much. Kinda
sad pickings on the air in Chicago in the afternoon :(

I reluctantly have tried switching to ESPN 1000 in the afternoons. While I
would agree the show is not a whole lot better, it DOES irritate me much
less that what the SCORE is doing right now, and with few commercial
interruptions. Case in point -- on Friday on my drive home I got into the
car and turned on the SCORE. I heard about a minute before they went to a
commercial break. Since I wanted to hear the Rivera news I switched over to
ESPN and they were in the middle of a conversation about it. I listened
most of the way home to ESPN, and when they finally went to commercial I
switched over to the SCORE, only to discover that they were again in
commercial. Geez.....

I have grown quite weary of Mike North and his rants about stuff that
doesn't make sense. Listening to Ditka on Thursday talk about how unfair it
was that Blache was not considered for the head coaching job just seemed
disconnected from how Bear fans are feeling. I have enough stress in my own
life... sports is one of my escapes and North is just too angry about stuff
that doesn't really matter.

On the other hand, I appreciated how Boers and Bernstein dealt with the Shea
signing... making fun of those who were wringing their hands because it took
a couple days for the decision-making process to get through. I was an
important hire... Shea was not "sure who he was" (whatever that meant).
Somehow, in parts of the media, that turned into the Bears fault. Boers and
Bernstein brought it back into focus.

My two cents on a Saturday morning.

They put Buffone on with North to try and mellow the show out, but
North is just too much of a blowhard.

Very nice. Did they read it?

Your point about the inaccuracies is a good one. They bother me the
most.

The negativity doesn't bother me. Plenty of radio personalities make
a career out of it and its OK as long as its fun (see the SCORE's
morning show). What bothers me is the anger and bitterness with which
North goes after Angelo. It isn't entertaining.

The ESPN afternoon show stinks. I've always liked Dan McNeil but they
need to get Tienowitz (sp?) out of the booth. There's no reason to
have 3 people there anyway.

I usually don't keep the radio on in the afternoon. I turn it off at
2. I forgot how much North irritated me until I started listening
again to get coaching news. I think that's just about done.

Too bad for Buffone. But North is a pretty sharp guy. He's one of
those guys who's smart enough to win most debates (even with a bad
position) and who will just shout you down when he can't. Buffone
obviously isn't quick enough to be an effective foil to North's
excesses. Its also obviously North's show. Its not Buffone's job to
argue, anyway.

I cringe whenever Buffone laughs at North's racist jokes, or just goes
along with the North show. I mean, who in the hell cares about Bebe's
pet show thing? Why would any radio station - let alone a sports radio
station - allow this to take up about 45 minutes of a primetime show?
Then there's Prizzi or Fritzi or whoever ... ugh.

Imagine if Buffone and Jiggets was still together throughout all these
changes .. .we'd have Bears talk solid for a couple hours each day.
Raymont Harris is entertaining, and any of the Bears (OB, Butkus,
Duerson, etc.) would be great.

And, yet ... Score management does nothing ...

Actually, North has had a pretty good following so I imagine, though they'd
like to say something, they'd pretty much decided to let well enough alone.
That may change shortly. The SCORE fell behind ESPN radio in the fall book
for afternoon drive. That's pretty astounding considering that its usually
when the Bears are playing that people turn on local sports radio the most.
It means people actually had to get off their rears and change the channel
at 3pm rather than just leaving it on the SCORE when North was on. Bear in
mind that this is before North started losing his mind over the Bears so it
could get worse. IMO that's very, very bad.

They'll probably let North alone for a while longer but give him about 6
more months of losing to ESPN and I think you'll see changes. North may
eventually find himself on at noon again.

I think that North, like his mentor Ditka did as Bears head coach, has
become a charicature of himself. He is marginalized talent that has come to
believe that he is more important than the news itself. He is the news in
his mind.

With his salary, if his number continue to be mediocre or dip, I would
imagine that the SCORE will cut bait with him and move in a new direction.

My two cents.

An interesting take. I was thinking about this again this morning and the
guy North reminds me of right now is Steve Dahl. Both have a loyal
following that will always make them valuable but both have become
self-indulgent. North basically does what he wants assuming that this is
what the audience will want or, worse, not caring what the audience wants or
feels.

I think there's always a place for guys like that becauuse of their history
but their prime time is limited. I think North, like Dahl, is destined for
the relatively minor noon time slot where he can compete because the
competition isn't that high and where he can't hurt his station. I could be
wrong but it obviously won't work in afternoon drive the way it is now.
He's got to have something or someone to curtail his excesses.

I really doubt I'll be listening to him, myself, very often for a while now
that things have settled down with the Bears.

You probably are in the minority. I hear her allot and she's pretty much a
one trick pony. If its the White Sox, I listen closely. But I don't have
much respect for her football opinions.

I think I'd like to give her a couple years to get her feet underneath her

I can't imagine them breaking up Boers and Bernstein to fix North. First, I
can't imagine either of them agreeing to work with him. Second, I think
that Boers and Bernstein might be the most valuable asset the station has at
this point.

Not everyone likes their schtick, of course, but they stay focused to
talking about sports. They don't spend a lot of energy talking about the
only reason people watch sports is to gamble (am I the only one who watches
football pretty much every week, but has no money on games?) They do great
interviews for the most part, are self-effacing, and are relatively
articulate. Since they've toned down the whole "gay" thing I think the show
has gotten very tight.

Oh, I agree ... I love the show. But, that's why I'm afraid of that
management messing it up. Wouldn't surprise me if they fire Boers and
put North and Bernstein.

The only time I got annoyed was when Jordan was playing for the
Wizards and every friggin' day both Dan and Terry would go on & on
about how Jordan is Satan incarnated. Since Jordan is nowhere to be
seen, the show has been great every day :)

I listened to him a bit driving in to work at 1:45am on Sunday. Didn't
hear a whole lot about sports, but he was having a great old time
ripping on Democrats. I guess since he works for a Fox network, there's
no point in being fair and balanced about politics. It wasn't exactly
what I was wanting to listen to when tuning in sports radio.

That's one of the major reasons that I'm so tired of North. He doesn't
stick to sports either. He has to start doing social commentary and in
his case he often doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. I still
remember the afternoon he tried to incite people into vigilantism by
encouraging people to engage in "street justice." That's just what this
world needs, more violence.

I think you get them wrong Tortoise. I think Dan and Terry listen to their
callers maybe even more than most of the other hosts. I think they have a
difficult time "sucking up" to idiotic callers who don't have a thought.
When someone calls and says that the Bulls should Get Kobie... and then say
they should trade one of their second tier players for him, oh, and maybe a
draft choice, they let them have it... as they should. A lot of hosts would
just sort of say, "yeah... why don't the Bulls get Kobie? Its Reinsdorf's
fault" or something like that.

And yeah... they laugh a lot. Good... they don't take their work seriously.
I mean come on... they get paid a lot of money to talk about sports for 4
hours a day. Its not like they are doing real work, right? Sports is a
diversion. And even if we sometimes take it a bit serious, overall, it is
still entertainment, and not curing cancer. So why not laugh? Its better
than listening to Dan Patrick trying to make sports sound like negotiating a
peace treaty in the Middle East. Or North attempting to give an opinion
(like he has a thoughtful one) about anything of import.

As is with your's... it is just my opinion, and as so, I am subject to being
wrong... but not in my head... which can be a very scarey place.

Are you sure that was Ben Maller? It doesn't sound like him. It

Julie Swika is totally horrible. If you don't agree with her when
she's on, she depends on name calling the listeners and if you kiss
her ass, all she responds is 'great!' or 'exactly'. She to me is the
female Mike North without the excess testostorine.

As for Boers/Bernstien, I grew tired of their show. Bernstein solo I
liked, but these 2 act like they are the second coming. They are all
smug and think they are the experts of not only sports talk, but
society in general.

North act has got to go, that is certain. He was fresh when he was
first on but now he is total boredom. They need to find a new place
for him, he won't leave or be fired since I heard he owns some part in
the score, I maybe wrong though.

Mike Murphy I like, but his damn show is interrupted by a commercial
or update every 5 minutes, it's hard to listen to that.

NOW

I Crap on the score above BUT I currently Live outside of Chicago, and
let me tell you people, a WSCR radio station during a downswing is
100x better than the syndicated national radio crap I have to deal
with. Whenever I get back home to Chicago, the Score seems like a
Eddie Schwartz glazed donut compared to the national sydication (I
like to call it National Vindication) crap shows.

The only good national sydicicated show is Jim Rome, but the others
are totally worthless.

Yep they are first class idiots. They both should be fired. There
are two other sport stations in Chicago. AM 820 and ESPN radio 1000.
Both stations are better then the score. If not for the scores local
