11/31/00 (6:00 PM PDT) (Routers News Service) The Florida Supreme Court
ruled today that 'write-in' votes to the Pro Bowl for Bear's rookie middle
linebacker Brian Urlacher will not be counted. In accepting the arguments
put forth by attorneys for Miami-Dade County Dolphins' coach Dave Wannstedt,
the judges unanimously found that Chicago Bear fans should have absolutely
no reason to feel good about anything this season. Bear fans nationwide
initially expressed outrage at the decision.
"I've lived in Chicago my whole life, always voted Democrat . . .(even for)
Harold Washington, so naturally, I never felt at risk for being on the
receiving end of such a bu****it decision," lamented precinct captain/Bear
fan Al Sobota.
Judges ruled that since no players went to the Pro Bowl during Wannstedt's
reign with the Bears, it would be unfair to allow the New Mexican phenomenon
to go. The published ruling stated that it would be ,". . .to summarily
disenfranchise innocent fans in an effort to punish dilatory (talent and
scouting) team personnel. ... The constitution eschews punishment by proxy."
In related developments, Bear fans have indicated disinterested support in
joining disenfranchised Republicans in the newly formed Apathy Party.
Leaders for the two groups declined to state whether they had bothered to
schedule a time to meet.
As one Bush/Cheney supporter wearing a number 54 jersey put it -- "Who
cares?"
"Those who cast the votes decide nothing. Those who count the votes
decide everything."
- Josef Stalin.
