Kyler Murray gets new deal ahead of Russell Wilson's extension talks

Walton’s worth an estimated $60 billion (and change), and one of his
first priorities should be negotiating a contract extension with
quarterback Russell Wilson, who has two years left on his current deal.
Wilson hasn’t even played a down for the Broncos yet, so while an
in-season extension is possible, Denver seems unlikely to give him a new
contract this summer. Whenever negotiations do begin, Wilson’s agent
will point to the current quarterback market as confirmation that his
client deserves a massive deal.
Earlier this week, the Arizona Cardinals reached a five-year deal with
Kyler Murray worth $230.5 million with $160 million guaranteed. Wilson’s
agent will presumably seek a similar deal.
On a per-year average ($46.1 million), Murray is now the second-highest
paid quarterback in the NFL, only trailing Aaron Rodgers ($50.2
million). After Rodgers and Murray are Deshaun Watson ($46 million),
Patrick Mahomes ($45 million), Josh Allen ($43 million), Derek Carr
($40.4 million) and Dak Prescott and Matt Stafford ($40 million).
Those contracts make it clear that the going rate for a top quarterback
in today’s NFL is more than $40 million per season. Wilson might not
become the game’s highest-paid quarterback, but he’ll surely want to be
in the ballpark of the game’s other top-paid QBs.
