Pick your guys and see if they earned their money last year. On a 4-12 team
is going to be hard. Maybe we can understand some of the teams moves in the
off-season, like letting go of Eric Hill. I don't have 1998 salaries. Total
salary for team was 36.95 Million.

I think we let go of Eric Hill because finally the coaching staff saw what so
many of us fans saw for years. He is overrated and overpaid. I don't know of
a player that made more downfield tackles and was less of a playmaker than
Hill. Good riddance. Check out the defense Vs the run in Hills absence vs
when he was in the lineup.

Next guy up on the chopping block is Larry Centers but that won't come until
next season when the Cardinals will have to figure out how to pay Rob Moore,
Jamir Miller, Eric Metcalf and 2 first round draft picks.

>Total
>Player, position Base pay Bonus 1997 pay
>Eric Swann, DT 2,000,000 1,500,500 3,500,500
He was worth more this year than in previous years IMO

>Aeneas Williams, CB 2,200,000 1,200,500 3,400,500
Definitely

>Lomas Brown, OL 2,000,000 1,000,500 3,000,500
He's sliding, but he's still the most consistent lineman.

>Rob Moore, WR 2,100,000 752,200 2,852,200
Definitely

>Eric Hill, LB 2,000,000 750,200 2,750,200
And how many games did he actually play?

>Larry Centers, RB 2,000,000 500,000 2,500,000
Maybe he'll do more under Trestman's offense.

>Simeon Rice, DE 595,300 1,845,200 2,440,500
Hopefully he'll rebound in his third season. Maybe not playing basketball will
help.

>Tommy Knight, CB 598,000 747,200 1,345,200
Nowhere to go but up

>Michael Bankston, DE 1,000,000 200,700 1,200,700
We're going to miss him. Of course, there's always that Wadsworth guy

>Jamir Miller, LB 615,000 450,000 1,065,000
Finally showed up last year

>Kent Graham, QB 650,000 88,700 738,700
Good riddance

>Leeland McElroy, RB 500,000 103,400 603,400

One of the best 1-2 combos in the league

>Brent Alexander, S 470,000 34,100 504,100
Not really
>Jake Plummer, QB 241,700 233,300 475,000
Is there any question

>Joe Wolf, OL 460,000 2,900 462,900
>Mike Devlin, OL 400,000 53,600 453,600
Let the line play a full season together, and we'll see what develops

>Bernard Wilson, DT 400,000 51,900 451,900
Hopefully Mark Smith will show up big this year

>Pat Carter, TE 450,000 0 450,000
There's a reason hardy was drafted

>Jeff Feagles, P/K 300,000 105,700 405,700
The biggest loss of the off season, mark my words.

>Rob Selby, OL 400,000 500 400,500

Gives us great D-Line depth

>Johnny McWilliams, TE 242,000 110,900 352,900
Tobin and Trestman really need to utilize the tight end more.
>Matt Darby, S 350,000 0 350,000
There's a reason Chavous and Tillman were drafted

>Stoney Case, QB 240,800 94,500 335,300
Back up for life???

>Jerry Drake, DE 300,000 2,400 302,400
Didn't really do much.

>Kevin Williams, WR 300,000 0 300,000
I'd take Eric Metcalf any day.

>Cedric Smith, RB 275,000 3,600 278,600
Worst running attack in the NFL, 'nuf said

>Anthony Edwards, WR 275,000 700 275,700
