Jonathan Schafer
Hello,
This is a special invitation for free shares of internet stock.
Please read on and register for your free shares and
refer your friends for more free shares.
Three years ago, Yahoo.com offered free stocks to the public, and
whoever registered got 50 to
100 shares by referrals. The price is now approx $450 a share. That's
right, $22,500 to $45,000
free US dollars.
www.uSellnBid.com is offering free shares right now, so check out this
opportunity, and register
immediately. Just go to the attached URL & register yourself. You get
3
shares to start, and then 1
for each referral (up to 100 total). This is FREE, no money is
required
so check it out now.
If you register, please use the referal code 33613--this will give me
an
extra share of stock just for referring you to this offer. Once you
are
registered, you too can earn extra stock options by referring your
friends.
http://www.usellnbid.com/AuctionScripts/ReferAFriend.idc?code=33613
There are few optional fields like credit card information. No need to
fill it as that is optional. If you
have any doubt or questions, refer to the FAQ section.
Thanks, and here's to some free money!

Yo Tim, You going to let Jon get away with this??????????????
Jonathan, you're giving free advertising to a scam operation. You
really should no better, as even a Packer fan could probably see just how
ludicrous that whole setup is.
Before you waste the time of everyone here again--hell, probably help
scam a lot of people here--check shit like this out.
No, you didn't offend, just came across as incredibly dumb.

Well Tim, since you seem so sure of yourself, why don't you enlighten
me as to exactly how ludicrous it is. I've searched the web, and
found zero information about it being a scam. I seached the USEnet.
Same thing. It's a legitimate company, that is an auction site. Both
Yahoo and e-Bay did similar programs. A quick search reveals that
well over 30 companies are now having some sort of stock giveaways.
Sure, it's a gimmick to get people to visit, but from everything I
have read, it certainly appears legitimate. Now, the company may go
bust, and never issue the stock. or it may not get SEC approval to
issue the stock, or any multitude of other things could happen. But
I'm out nothing. So please, if you're going to call me dumb, you
better be able to back it up with some specifics as to exactly how and
why it is a scam. Otherwise, apology accepted.

Yeah, but people will get suckered into this sceme from his actions.
He has to pay somehow. I know, we'll make him watch overtime of the '98

Well, here is a link to another stock giveaway program as "outed" by
the Urban Legends resource page:
http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/nothing/21yahoo.htm
While these are two completely different pages and programs, there is
one important similarity, and that is that both claim to be a repeat of Yahoo's
stock givaway. Both give a story about how people made tons of money on Yahoo
stock way back when. One problem, Yahoo never gave away stock. Nope. Never.
Check Yahoo for confirmation on that one.
Thus we are facing a company that is using false advertising to spread
its message. That is a big fragging flashing warning sign right there.
>bust, and never issue the stock. or it may not get SEC approval to
>issue the stock, or any multitude of other things could happen. But
Yup. Lots of things. More than likely the stock never goes public and
you get absolutely nothing. I'd check with the SEC, but don't hold your
breath.
However...
>I'm out nothing. So please, if you're going to call me dumb, you
>better be able to back it up with some specifics as to exactly how and
>why it is a scam.
No, you are out the time you spent advertising a piss-poor auction site
for free. You are also out the hundereds of buyers that will buy your
information from that same piss-poor auction site. (I took a quick look, it is
horrid, really.) You've also gotten at least a few people here to head to the
site to sign up for stock and get drawn into the same scheme.
>Otherwise, apology accepted.
Pull your head out from that dark tunnel it's stuck in--quite similar
to the one Denny's head is in. There isn't a previous example of people
getting rich from free stock--it always, at best, is merely a way to get
contact info from people. Check the link I provided and the links from that
page to articles from the SEC about stock givaways. Yes, lots of companies are
currently doing it, but only because people seem naive enough to go for it.

Yeah, I read the snopes thing. So they have marginal evidence that in
some cases, it was urban legend, but in at least TravelZoo's case,
they did give away 700,000 shares of stock. I know it's not worth
anything today, and it may never be. But if it is, the people who
have it may actually get something out of it.

It took all of 2 minutes to write the note, so no big deal. My e-mail
address has long since been sold to lots of mass-marketers. Hey, my
daughter has an e-mail address. She doesn't use the internet, except
to receive e-mail from her grandparents. She doesn't surf, and even
if she did, the browser is registered with my name, not hers. She's
never signed up at a single site. And yet, she gets 3 or 4 spams a
day.

It's not stuck in any dark tunnel. I'm fully aware that it most
likely will never amount to anything, and any information they get is
already floating around the internet anyway. The SEC, while publicly
questioning the legitimacy, has not issued final rulings. In at least
one case, the company said they were not selling any of the
information, so it had no value to them. The stock giveaway was
allowed to proceed. TravelZoo has given away at least 700,000 shares.
So again, I ask you...what do I have to lose, and how am I being so
*dumb*, as you put it. Your first attempt to describe so failed.
Hey, nobody is forcing anyone to go and register. If you feel that
it's a scam, don't do it. But the fact that you believe it is,
doesn't make it so, nor does it make me dumb. As I said, I'm out
nothing but a couple of minutes of my time. In fact, I've wasted more
time replying to this than it took to originate the whole thing.

Yahoo never gave away stock. In fact, "stock" like this is worthless because
the SEC must approve an initial stock offering for a public company and the
amount of shares and value of the shares are issued based on the worth of
the company at the time of approval. The market takes it from there.
This is a gimmick. It is meant to draw people to the site, get them to give
demographic information that can be compiled into a mailing list, and then
that mailing list can be sold for profit. Some of these outfits also try to
sell advertising based on travel volume. This particular company might
actually be legit in the sense that they are trying to be an auction site,
but with established players like E-bay, Yahoo, and Amazon already doing the
same thing, do you really think they are going to be able to compete?
Do what you want, but trust me, nothing is free, and even if it is, the
basic business model of this company will probably fail because the
marketplace is saturated already.
And BTW, I don't think you're dumb, and I don't agree with namecalling. But
don't be surprised if you see a spike in telemarketer calls or spam e-mails
after you sign up for this.
If this company is dumb enough to try to compete straight up with ebay,
they'll faile, but if they have a new idea on how to do things, they may
very well have a shot at success. The internet is peppered with such
stories. One thing the internet has shown is that customer loyalty is
fading fast.

But specifically the site you advertised is claiming that thousands got
rich of the Yahoo stock givaway. A givaway that never happened. I really tend
to distrust any company that decides to use blatantly false information to
spread its claims.

I guess I'll agree. I was going on the assumption that you were trying

protecting my information. Fair enough--though the issue of using blatantly
false info to advertise is enough of a problem that this givaway may be shut
down quite early.

No, that information came from a note that someone sent to me about
it. The site in questions, uSellnBid.com says nothing about e-Bay or
Yahoo offering free stock. However, I should have checked that part
out myself before forwarding the note on. So it's not the companies
fault, as they had nothing to do with the contents of the note. I
take responsibility for passing on that false information. The rest
of it does hold true.

I do as well, but I have a lot of filters in place on my e-mail, so I
pretty much never see the stuff. It goes right into the junk folder
and deleted automatically.

As I said, the site in question is not using the false information.
It was passed on to me and I should have checked that part out further
myself, before passing the note on. The questions about the SEC are
fair enough. So far, the ruling seems to be that if the information
is not sold, then there is no payment, therefore, it is legal. But,
if the information were to be sold, then it would be deemed illegal
and action possibly taken against the company.

I suppose it could, but then I don't make it a habit to pass this
stuff around, so if it takes one hit from this, I'll suppose it will
survive. The thing is, if people look at it and decide it's not for
them, then no harm done. If they want to try it, then they can.

Yes, it is absolutely worthless now, and may never be worth anything.
But then, someday, maybe it will be worth something. Who knows. I'm
not out anything, other than the minute information I gave to them at
the site. It's not like my name hasn't already been sold before, so
if they do it, it won't change anything in that regard. However, if
they do sell it, that will probably bring the SEC down on them for
violations. The current rule seems to be that if information is given
that has no value (meaning not to be resold), then the giveaway is
legal, for the time being.

Do I think they will be able to compete? I don't know. They
certainly are not in the e-bay class right now, or even Yahoo. But
they measure up fairly well against Lycos' auctions. That's not to
say though, that they can't improve. Only time will tell.
>Do what you want, but trust me, nothing is free, and even if it is, the
>basic business model of this company will probably fail because the

Perhaps, but that doesn't stop new companies from forming nearly every
day to try and compete in those marketplaces. That is one beauty of
ther internet. There are countless opportunities, even when
established companies are already in place.
>And BTW, I don't think you're dumb, and I don't agree with namecalling. But
>don't be surprised if you see a spike in telemarketer calls or spam e-mails

It can't possibly get any worse than it already is. For the e-mails,
they go right into the junkyard by the filtering I have in place. As
for telemarketers, my name is already out there so much that this
isn't going to increase it by any measurable means.
Jonathan Schafer
What is the scam exactly anyway? I've seen a lot of these, and have never
responded, knowing that it was indeed a scam of some sort. But what is it?
Trying to get credit card numbers?
Getting absolutely free advertising in exchange for absolutely nothing.
I'd call that borderline on being a scam.
However, they also used blatantly false information in advertising by
claiming this is similar to a Yahoo stock givaway that supposedly netted
thousands for people a few years back. Yahoo never gave away stock. If a
company has to blatantly lie in order to get its name out I am very, very
suspicious.

Come on Jon, I have no "personal vendetta" against anyone. Yes I did respond
in a somewhat sarcastic manner to a very small percentage of your posts, a
short time back, I'll admit (to save Tim the time of a Deja check). But you

.....and the funny thing is, this is probably the most entertaining thing going

What?? The old Vikings News Group without Viker? I don't believe it. You're
hooked man! Now way you can go through the season without posting to the
group.
If the recording thing works out where should I look for the Viker, on MTV
or VH1? At least when you do those music videos you will have to wear the
purple and gold! ;-)
Well, good luck with it, Viker. It sure sounds like you're fired up over
getting started. Hope you have fun.
