There will be an announcement today. Greg Davis, Mike Tolleson and Mac
McWhorter are all resigning today.
More to come.

AUSTIN ‹ Embattled Texas offensive coordinator Greg Davis has resigned
and two other Longhorns assistants are retiring, UT announced Monday.
Davis, a 38-year coaching veteran who has served as the Longhorns'
offensive coordinator during all 13 years of Mack Brown's tenure at UT,
had dealt with intense speculation about his job future for months.
Offensive line coach Mac McWhorter and defensive tackles/special teams
coach Mike Tolleson, both of whom had faced uncertain futures after
their units struggled, announced their retirements Monday.
The resignations are effective next August, but in a statement released
by UT, Brown said he will begin searching for their replacements
immediately. A UT official said Brown doesn't plan to name any new
coaches until after the bowl season.

Translation - they get paid, but they're out.

I wonder how NCAA limits on the number of assistant
coaches will be applied here. The spirit of the rule
is certainly to waive it, but the NCAA is so inconsistent
in its application of the rules that I'd hope somebody
at Bellmont is thinking that aspect through already.

Know it's been a while but I just had to pop in on this most glorious
day. I am dubbing this day JAFPB Independence Day. I have been waiting
for this day since 2003. So thrilled his long run is over. I can take
losing to every South team minus Tech if it means JAFPB is gone.
Hearing Harsin, the OC from Boise is our main target. Mulzahn, my
preference, probably will have too many HC jobs to mull over. Major
and Chad Morris from Tulsa are fall backs. Like Major but I'd rather
get some new blood in here. Morris was Gilbert's coach from Lake
Travis smacks of a desperate play by Mack to salvage Gilbert's
career.
Just wanted to pop back in on this most glorious day. Hope you boys
are doing well.

You should come in more. I've got to admit, I've missed your angry
rants about JAFPB. I'm hoping whoever we hire will bring the same
kind of spark we got when Mack brought in Chizik a few years ago. I
think the right hire can have success right away but that offensive
line looks pretty ugly. That's a hard place to get better quick.
I will tell you this... as soft as your OL was this
year, your DL was even worse with fundamentals. Alex
Okafor has got to learn to keep his feet on the
ground... he got caught airborne so many times
against A&M it was almost embarrassing for *me* to
watch. That shit just shouldn't be happening at a
top tier program like Texas. Getting somebody in
place who can coach those kids up would be a huge
boost for your program.

I don't doubt that the school will do something to rectify the situation should
they need to. They were making a position to do similar for Davis to be
promoted out of the OC, I am sure they will do something for Tolleson and
McWhorter.
Basically the August timeline is so that if they either decided to take a year
off or have trouble finding a next gig, they are paid until then. But I am
pretty sure that they will be taken off the books should they find some new work
sooner than that.

But we get our pick of the best in Texas!
Don't they come pre-coached up?
