1988 NC State Football Recruits

Neal Auer
6-5, 210
A.C. Reynolds, Asheville, NC
The brother of Wolfpack captain Scott Auer. An excellent
athelete who was named tothe Associated Press and
Greensboro News and Record all-state squads. Played
linebacker and quarterback as a senior and passed for over 700
yards in 1987. Played out of Reynolds "Notre Dame Box"
offense where he was required to block alot for Coach Scott
Conner. Should begin his collegiate career as a linebacker.
Selected to play in the Shrine Bowl, and the East-West
All-Star game. Played center on the state 4-A championship
basketball team. A strong student who plans to major in
education.

Brent Bagwell
6-3, 235
Kings Mountain High, NC
A strong aggressive defensive lineman who also played tight
end as a prep. Is expected to sit out tis fall after injuring his
knee, but he should be back in 1989. Chose to play in the
East-West All-Star game. Honored on the conference unit for
the Southwestern 3-A. Posted 62 tackles, including 9 sacks
last season, and was the team's top defender. Also caught 11
passes for 171 yards as a senior. Played basketball last year,
ans was on the baseball squad as a junior. An outstanding
student who plans to study textile management.

Anthony Barbour
5-10, 170
Garner High, NC
A talented running back who posted some of the finest prep
numbers in recent history. His 5803 career rushing yards rank
him fifth on the national all-time list, and he ranks second on
the national single season charts with 47 touchdowns in 1988.
Led Garner to the state 4-A title while rushing for 3125 yards
last year. Named the NC player of the year by the Associated
Press and the Greensboro News and Record. His team posted
a perfect 15-0 record under Coach Hal Stewart. Garner is near
Raleigh, making Barbour an immediate favorite with local
Wolfpack fans. Will study either criminal justice or social work.

James Bullock
6-3, 260
Washginton High, Massillion, OH
A three year starter at defensive tackle, and the team captain
as a senior. Was slowed throughout his final campaign by an
ankle injury. In his junior season was named the teams top
defensive player. Nine players from his high school team were
signed to Division I scholarships. After his career under Coach
John Maronto, he played in the inter-county All-Star game. A
solid student who plans to major in industrial engineering.

Chris Davis
6-0, 180
Hewwitt-Trussville High, Birmingham, AL
A two-time all-state selection who has excellent power as a
punter and place-kicker. Booted a school recrod 51-yard field
goal, and averaged 46.3 yards per punt as a senior. In his
sophomore year he averaged 43 yards per punt, and in 1987 his
average rose to 45 yards per effort. Also played safety and
qurterback for Coach Jack Wood. Helped his team to 18 wins in
20 games over his final two seasons. Earned a trio of football
monograms. Receivers all-star notice on the baseball diamond,
where he played virtually every position during his three year
varsity career. A captain for the baseball squad his final two
years.

Mike Gee
6-5, 260
Burlington Williams High, NC
An honorable mention All-America selection by USA Today,
he was regarded as one of the top prep offensive linemen in
North Carolina last year. An Associated Press and Greensboro
News and Record all-state honoree, he was chosen to play in
the East-West All-Star game. A well-rounded player who
teamed with fellow NCSU signee Ricky Turner. A two year
starterm he was an all-conference selection as a junior under
coach Sam Story. His team won the 1986 state 4-A title, and
reached the championship game again last year. An excellent
student who will study engineering.

Therome George
5-11, 184
Shelby Crest High, NC
A leader who quarterbacked his prep squad to a pair of state
3-A championships. Hit on 51 of 108 passes for 949 yards and
4 touchdowns, and also ran for 459 yards and nine more scores.
An all-conference selection who also won the MVP award at
the state title game, while playing for coach Jim Taylor.
Recently named the MVP at the conference track meet, where
he competed in the 300 intermediate hurdles, 110-m high
hurdles, long jump and triple jump. The entire 1987 backfield
from Shelby High received scholarships from Division I
programs. The president of the Shelby student body, and a
National Honor Society member, he will major in engineering.

Richard Glover
5-11, 164
Oak Ridge High, Orlando, FL
A defensive back who has speed to burn. Won the 400-meters
at the Junior Olympics in Nebraska in 48.2 seconds, and has run
the 100-meters in 10.5. Was an all-Metro and all-county
selection under Coach John Hemmer. Intercepted 4 passes and
averages 6 tackles per game in 1987. Did not compete on the
football team as a junior in order to concentrate on track, but
returned to the gridiron as a senior. Is expected to compete on
both the track and football teams for the Wolfpack. Plans to
study business management.

Billy Ray Haynes
6-0, 226
Chase High, Forest City, NC
A hard-nosed linebacker who was the MVP of the Shrine
Bowl. Also received Rutherford County Player of the Year,
all-Southwest 3-A Conference and second-team
all-Piedmont. Played in the East-West All-Star game, and
was a team captain. Posted 169 tackles as a senior. Named to
the all-conference, all-countym and all-area units in both his
sophomore ans junior years under Coach John Keeter. Also
plays baseball, and set the school recrod for home runs and
RBIs in a season. The vice president of the student body with
the highest gpa on his prep team, he will enroll in engineering.

Tony Horton
6-4, 230
East Mecklenburg High, Matthews, NC
An All-America linebacker who had 75 unassisted tackles last
year, including 12 behind the line of scrimmage. Received
All-America notice, and was named to the Associated Press
and Greensboro News and Record all-state squads. A swift,
strong defender who as a junior earned all conference,
all-county, and team defensive MVP honors for Coach Rudy
Abrams. Also listed as one of the nation's top 250 prospects
that year. Started on the basketball eam as a sophomore, but
gave up basketball to concentrate on football. Played in the
Shrine Bowl, posting nine tackles, including two sacks. Has yet
to determine his academic major.

Marc Hubble
6-4, 270
Hewitt-Trussville High, Birmingham, AL
A team co-captain as a senior, he was an all-Metro selection
at offensive guard. Began his prep career at Cathedral Cristian
before transferring prior to his junior season. An athlete with
excellent work habits, he was a two year starter for Coach JAck
Wood. Also wrestled on the state championship squad. A
member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. A strong
student who was the president of his senior class, he has yet to
decide on his academic major.

Terry Jordan
6-0, 190
Galther High, Tampa, FL
A four year starter at quarterback, he guided his prep team to a
pair of district championships. A first team all-area selection
by the Tampa Tribune, he was nominated to play in the annual
Florida-Georgia all-star game. Won two major honors in the
Tampa area, the Guy Toph award, and the Golden Helmet
award. Also played free safety for Coach Tony Bellanca. The
nephew of former Dallas Cowboy star Lee Roy Jordan. Played
on the Galther baseball team. A strong student who will study
business management.

Reggie Lawrence
6-0, 173
Camden High, NJ
An explosive receiver who was recognized by the
all-conference, all-South Jersey, all-state squads, and the
Philidelphia Enquirer's all-area team. Played receiver and
tailback in high school, and also returned kickoffs and punts for
Coach Wiliam Simpson. A three-year starter. In one game as a
junior he carried 6 times for 257 yards and 3 TDs, and returned
a kickoff for 95 yards. An all-state track selection, he tied the
school recrod in the 200-meters with a time of 21.3 seconds. A
member of the Camden Student Government, he will enroll in
applied mathematics.

Ricky Logo
6-0, 280
Spencer High, Fort Benning, GA
A talented athlete who excelled as a fullback and linebacker for
Coach Frank Matthews. The teams MVP and the defensive
player of the year. Expected to play nose guard at State. Won
the Coca-Cola Golden Helmet Award for excellence, and was
named all-city. Also wrestles, winning the state title as a
junior and losing only 4 matches in his prep career. Qualified for
the state track championships in the shot put and played
midfield on the soccer team. His father is one of the finest
racquetball players in the nation, and his mother is the daughter
of a Samoan king. A strong student who plans to enroll in
criminology.

Greg Manior
6-1, 210
Effingham County High, Rineon, GA
A knee injury forced him to sit out 5 games in 1987, but he still
rushed for 610 yards and 9 TDs from his fullback position. Had
arthoscopic surgery over the off-season, and doctors expect
him to be at 100 percent. As a junior picked up 1300 yards
running out of the wishbone. His prep squad posted a 14-1
record his senior season under Coach robert Griffith, and
reached the state championship tilt. A three-year track
letterman, he is also a regional weightlifting champion. An
excellent student who is expected to study businness.

Andreas O'Neal
6-4, 245
John A. Wilkinson High, Bellhaven, NC
A top defensive prospect, he averaged 13 tackles per game as a
senior. Possesses both speed and strength. Played linebacker
as well as offensive and defensive line for Coach Micheal
Proctor. Named to the all-conference, all-area, and all-East
squads. The team captain as a senior. Posted 20 tackles in one
game last fall. One of the top 15 students in his class at
Wilkinson High, he has yet to choose a course of study.

Sebastian Savage
6-1, 175
Union High, Carlisle, SC
The leading punt returner in South Carolina last fall, he is also
an outstanding track runner. Played free safety and tailback for
Coach Shell Dule last fall, but was sidelined in mid-season
with a leg injury. Is expected to begin drills as a defensive back
at State, but he has the physical tools to play a number of
positions. A late bloomer, he moved into the starting lineup
during the 1996 season. A member of the National Honor
Society, he will enroll in engineering.

Ricky Turner
6-0, 180
Williams High, Burlington, NC
The 1987 Mid-State Player of the Year, he is a versatile
running back who could play a number of positions at State.
Gained 3869 career yards, including 1755 last fall for Coach
Sam Story. Scored 28 TDs last falla and 43 for his career. Led
his team to state 4-A title as a sophomore, and reached the
finals as a senior. A three-time all-conference selection, he
was sleected to play in the East-West All-Star game. As a
junir, he lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track. A
teammate of fellow Wolfpack signee Mike Gee. An excellent
student, he plans to study engineering.

Chris Wrenn
6-4, 255
Fuquay-Varina High, NC
A talented offensive lineman who should have a bright future
with the Wolfpack. Earned all-conference, all-East, all-Metro,
Associated Press all-state, and All-America recognition as a
senior. Started at right tackle in the Shrine Bowl, and was
credited with 13 knockdown blocks. A three year starter for
Coach Graham Myrick. Also throws the discuss, and the shot
put fot the track team. A strong student who plans to enroll in
zoology.
