Utah. The Lakers still have the free throw advantage in the series by a
huge number. Face it, the Lakes lost in OT because Kobe was hurt and the
other players couldn't hit squat. How did Gasol miss that dunk?

Aside from the ridiculous missed dunk, I don't understand why the
Lakers went away from placing Kobe on the block in overtime. Putting
him back on the wing was just plain foolish. He couldn't get past
Ivan Drago off the dribble, and he was forcing up contested jumpers
with the sore back. I know other people weren't knocking anything
down either, but the Lakers shouldn't have abandoned running the
offense through the post.

Well, Utah commits way more fouls in every game than their opponent; it's
the primary aspect of their system of basketball. Only the Spurs even come
close to committing as many, and they are much more subtle about it.
If Utah ever has the free throw advantage in any game, again except perhaps
San Antonio, they have gotten help from the officials. That's the way they
choose to play.

Regular season Utah was 30th in least fouls at 24.02,
but SAS were 2nd at 18.74

The original was whining that Utah won because of the refs. The Lakers have
far outshot the Jazz from the line (those bricks are piling up too!!) so
there is little evidence that the refs favor the Lake show. Kobe is still
getting all the questionable calls so there is nothing to whine about.
Lakes outplayed the Jazz in games 1 & 2 and Jazz did better in game four
though Fischer was HUGE and I was so glad he didn't get the touches in OT.
Sorry, officials had NOTHING to do with the outcome and the better team has
won every game so far.

I said commits, not gets called for. SA fouls relentlessly but they are
less overt about it and they augment it with unparalelled flopping and
whining. As Utah's whole system is based on fouling, SA's is based on
getting games called in their favor. I've praised Pop in the past for
coming up with the concept, or more accurately advancing the concept from
its Daly and Riley 80's-90's roots.

Still would not be that lopsided of calls... the refs review every game and
have notes going in what to watch for on every team and player.... spurs
were called for about one more than their opponents per game, which is same
margin as Utah but lower totals.
