BUT when I was looking at them, there was a way to legitimately pay for
your Directv programming, the satellite dealer would have American
addresses for you to subscribe with. Is this option no longer available?
I had heard a few years ago that Directv loved this grey market get an
American address extra business, they would try to appease the Canadian
goverment and communications industry lobby that they were doing
everything they could do about it but of course they were just paying
them lip service. So it seems now that for business reasons that Directv
no longer, either publically or under the covers, wants Canadians to get
their programming. Directv has some kind of finanacial involvement in a
Canadian system I presume? What stake do they own in any of the Canadian
satellite or cable companies?
It's all just total fucking bullshit. It's nothing but more Canadian
socialist welfare crap. We've had to support that godforsaken piece of
shit CBC for decades with billions of dollars of tax money, now we have
to support 100 little shitty Canadian content cable channels. FUCK THAT!
Nobody guarantees the rest of us a job or profits in any field we choose
to work in or start a business in, why the hell should the broadcasting
industry get this welfare? Give me a fucking break.
If I'm in the clothing business, I manufacture blue jeans, I get no
welfare style protection, retailers and shoppers can buy their blue
jeans from any manufacturer in the world. The government doesn't make it
a crime for a store to sell jeans they buy from the US or Maylasia, it
doesn't make it a crime for a citizen to pick up some blue jeans when he
is on vacation in Florida.
This country is fucked. But that's not really the point of my post.
What i really want to know is there a legitimate way of getting Directv
in Canada other than patronizing these card pirates?
thanks
MT
Second, from a legal standpoint it is no longer illegal in Ontario to have
DirecTV system. Legally, you are doing nothing wrong. Morally however,
it's a different story. There is currently no way to receive direcTV from
the United States by paying for it.

it's wrong. it was always wrong. if Canadians decide for themselves that
they'd like a sports channel that features sports and news that reflect
their own interests than that channel would succeed on its own, no need
for any kind of protection.
You call a Home and Garden channel or a Cooking Food Channel culture?
hahahhahahahahhha.........
Canadian writers, musicians , artists will create without the
government's help. Because they are creative people. And if their work
is good, Canadian people will support it, if not, they don't deserve a
free ride. Get a fucking job like the rest of us.
The CBC I can live with. I have no problem with ONE national public TV
channel. I have no problem with a ballet componay or grants to artists
themselves. It's a whole industry of businessmen, who learn to play the
CRTC and government's game, making big $$$ producing mostly crap and
denying Canadians of entertainment they would rather watch.

If it makes you feel better about yourself by giving money to DirecTV, well,
that is your decision. But there is no difference between giving money to
DirecTV to activate programming on your card or doing it yourself.
As for protecting Canadian culture, every country does this. You don't see
the Canadian versions of TSN, MuchMusic, Newsworld, etc. on US television.
Canadians cry because we are more interested in American programming than
vice versa.

given the choice of muchmusic and mtv, i'd watch both. i would watch
music to see canadian talent and artists that i would not otherwise
see on mtv, and i would also watch muchmusic to learn more about the
events that are going on within toronto (i'm from the area), i.e.
carabana, any concerts, guests that come to muchmusic, etc, etc. in
fact, i've got directv right now and dont really care much for mtv.
muchmusic usa is just a few channels down, but is not as 'canadian' as
the regular muchmusic. however, if, say the fully canadian version
was being shown, i'd probably watch it more often.
for the tsn, espn battle? depends on the content. i like OTR and
given the choice between espn and tsn at 6 p.m., there'd be no
question. also for many others out there, if curling or ohl hockey is
your thing.. not going to find it on espn, but simply change the
channel and you'll get your fix. when curling's done, sit back and
flip to espn to watch a college football game.
it comes down to the t.v. shows. half the stuff on directv i could
care less about. all those cartoon networks and disney network crap?
please.. directv could use its new spotbeam technique to provide all
the local normal canadian channels (global, ctv, city tv) to OUR
regions, but give us the option of selecting the showcases and nba
packages as well.
it wont take long anyways before directv or dishnetwork is up here,
legally. just how walmart took sometime to come up here, and just like
circuit city is making it's way up here to compete with future shop
(after future shop was given years and years to develop a strong
relationship with the canadian market), directv will be here too.

So now we have made Moses Znaimer a rich man. What else have we done?
Employed a very small number of people who work at Much and a bunch of
people who play in bands. We are talking about in reality a very small
segment of the population here. I'd rather serve the interests of the
overwhelming majority of Canadians, let them consume and watch what
they want. If people don't have pride in their country and what it
produces the government shouldn't be treating us like children.

Holy shit that is the most fucked up logic i've seen in a long time. Do
you go to school? Please enroll in a logic course. And a morals and
ethics one while you are at it.
Regardless if Directv has a right to sell its service here in Canada it
is still their property.
Marijuanna is still not legal for you to possess in this country. Let's
say you are in a friend's house and you discover he's got a huge stash
of pot or anything else that isn't legal, cable tv descramblers for
example........you believe you have a moral right to steal from your
friend because what you are stealing isn't legal anyways?
damn. like shooting fish in a barrel.
But you are wrong Kevin. Walmart and all the other American retailers
are here but it won't happen in the cultural arean anytime soon. It's
very ingrained in Canada that we are inferior and that without any
protection we would have nothing. That's what our government has
brainwashed us into for as long as I have been alive. The cultural elite
in this country is powerful. Politicians are afraid of them. I'm not
against some forms of helping our own get heard and watched, i just
think it's always gone too far.
CBC.......ONE national public TV network. No hockey on it by the way. We
have
private broadcasters for that. The CBC has no business showing NHL
hockey. Spend your time and effort doing things that the private sector
won't or can't make a profit doing.
A Canadian music channel and a sports channel would survive, regional
channels too would survive.
Listen, the Internet in due time is going to make this all irrelevant.
Technology will win the day and there will be nothing the government can
do about it. I will watch what i want.
Anyways things aren't that bad up here when it comes to TV choices. At
one time I hated being deprived of certain things from the States but we
get so much now there isn't time to watch everything anyways.
Honestly people when was the first time you heard that line, 1993 for
me. In fact I would bet that if u searched through the Usenet archives I
probably used it in 1995. Does the phrase 'played out' mean anything to
you Stupid?
Hey this one's on the house. When somebody's got you really angry just
say 'I'd like to engage you in a battle of wits but I refuse to do
battle against an unarmed man!'.......oh how everyone will be amazed at
your intellect and wit, they will oooooooooooo and aaaaaaaaaaaaaah,
everybody will wanna be your friend Lawdong.
Hello? Can anybody tell me what he is doing hete?

You are incorrect. The content that DirecTV re-distributes does not belong
to DirecTV. They are simply the middle man between the original copywrite
owner and the AMERICAN viewing public (they have a license to redistribute
only in USA). In Canada other companies have rights to re-distribute the
same content.

Sealing is wrong. All I am trying to say is that by viewing programming on
DirecTV in Canada (HBO, PPV, etc), regardless of how you pay for the DirecTV
programming, you are stealing from the providers that have the license to
re-reattribute that content in Canada.
If you watch HBO on DirecTV you are stealing from TMN
If you watch a pay per view event on DirecTicket you are stealing from
Viewer Choice
So it makes no difference HOW you get your DirecTV programming you are
ALWAYS stealing the signal from the legitimate Canadian distributor.

And I didn't answer your last post because it was more weak logic and
didn't
want to waste any more keystrokes on the subject or you.
But now that you have the temerity to challenge me I will tell you why
once again you are a stupid ass.
When a Canadian buys grey market US satellite programming they ARE
stealing from the Americans. American cable/satellite companies who
provide programming and are not allowed to have their channels carried
in Canada due to CRTC regulations SELL their programming to Canadian
channels who are licensed. Understand me so far? What determines the
price they can get for that programming depends VERY MUCH on how many
subscribers the Canadian channels have. These deals are done based
precisely on a per subscriber basis. Sooooooooooooooo........now read
this slowly because you do have some comprehension
problems.............if a significant segment of the Canadian viewing
public has decided to go grey market, and they have, they aren't
subscribing to the Canadian channels the Americans must sell their
programming to. Which obviously means they can't demand as much money
from the Canadian channels. The Canadian watching his 'illegal' Directv
programming is not paying the American programming provider anything.
Read it again fucknut. It will make sense eventually.

The original copywrite holders NOT DirecTV. Regardless of what you have

As I said in my previous post, by watching DirecTV your impeding Canadian

have taken what I said and made it your own.
