I live 200 miles south of Portland. This morning, despite the looks of
the surf, I did not need a coat...
Clear skies but the salt spray and a little fog makes the pictures skys
look dark.
Had scattered thunder showers in the afternoon but by then I was home.

Nah, some rain with highs in the mid-50s & lows in the 40s. Just the usual.

sorry to intrude, but is that coos bay? and if yes how is that area, I
have a recruiter trying to convince me to move to coos bay for lthe
last 2 years , I have been to Newport before but not coos bay !

Yes Coos Bay. How is it "how"? Are you coast guard?
If so they have small boats here at the fishing village Charleston's
harbor, they no longer have a big cutter stationed here. And a
Helicopter base at North Bend airport, a town surrounded by Coos Bay.
Small town but bigger than Newport, not as cute as Newport. North
Bend/ Coos bay combined are about 30K population.

IMO there are not too many places nicer to live than the west coast of
the USA, starting with and anywhere north of Morro Bay in California.
Unless you already live someplace awesome, I'd say you were nuts not to
pursue a chance to live at Coos!

Depends on his lifestyle and hobbies.
It is 90 miles to a freeway. The nightlife is non-existent unless you
like slots and blackjack at the Indian run casino. The Restaurant
choices are pretty limited.
The nearest concerts outside of casino has-beens are a 4.5 hour
drive, the nearest arts concerts and theater is in Eugene. We do have
Laker BBall but it is the JuCo team at SWOCC. =)
If you like more civilized sports about the only exceptional facility is
the world class public golf resort in Bandon about 20 minutes drive. The
Bandon Dunes have 4 courses, I think 3 of them are 18 holes and the
last one opened 10, plus a 30 acre practice center, and did a great job
of leaving the natural setting and natural hazards. 2 of the courses
run along the ocean bluff.

If you love great scenery for long drives, biking, boating, canoing,
ocean or whitewater kayaking, hiking and camping, fishing and hunting...
little theater groups and one jazz festival... and like rain better than
snowy winters and summers air conditioned by fog or wind better than
heat and desert... (and I do) temps about 60 to 70 degrees most days in
the summer if right near the ocean a little higher if you live slightly
inland, then this is the spot.
Moderate property prices and rents compared to CA... fairly high
property and state income tax, but no sales tax and low vehicle
registration, $55 for two years for cars and pickups.

Should be close by now but I might be overestimating the growth a little.
North Bend was about 9.5 K in 2000, Coos Bay about 14K in 2000
but 16.5 K in 2007. Lots of people retiring here.
Coos County was about 63K in 2000.

photographer. I use a digital super zoom point and shoot and hardly know
an F Stop from my foot.

Never had to be a pro, just dedicated.
Depends more on your eye and sense of art and just the will to get out
and be in the right place more than the camera.
We have people in our club with 20K worth of equipment whose images
look like your uncle frank's snapshots.
What digital has done for the serious photographer, pro or not, is speed
up the learning process because you can instantly and cheaply see the
results and check adjustments, or take them in RAW and decide exposure
etc later.
Plus you do not have to experiment for weeks in a dark room to make an
adjustment.
I do some winning at the state wide level, Monthly competition which is
among 30 some camera clubs mostly in Oregon with a few in WA,ID and a
couple in NoCal.
