Adam Pally & Steph Curry Comedy ‘Mr. Throwback’ Moves From NBC To
Peacock With Series Order

Peacock has given straight-to-series order to Mr. Throwback, a
mockumentary comedy headlined by NBA star Steph Curry and Happy Endings
alum Adam Pally. The pickup for the project, from Happy Endings creator
David Caspe and writing duo Matthew Libman and Daniel Libman, was
announced Wednesday at TCA along with three drama series orders by Peacock.

As Deadline reported exclusively last April, Mr. Throwback was
originally set up at NBC for development. A couple of years ago,
NBCUniversal installed a centralized development team for NBC, the
company’s basic cable networks and Peacock, with projects sometimes
shepherded well into development before a decision is made which
platform it would go to.

Additionally, NBC in the past year or so has taken a turn toward
multi-camera comedies, which cost less to produce than single-camera
shows. All of the network’s existing three half-hour series, Night
Court, Lopez vs. Lopez and Extended Family, are multi-cam, as is NBC’s
2024 comedy pilot, starring Reba McEntire.

At Peacock, Mr. Throwback will join popular mockumentaries such as The
Office and Parks and Recreation whose libraries are on the streamer.

In Mr. Throwback, a down-on-his-luck memorabilia dealer (Pally) looks
for redemption by reuniting with his sixth-grade teammate, NBA great
Steph Curry.

Caspe writes and exec produces with the Libmans as well as Pally, Curry
and Unanimous’ Erick Peyton.

Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, produces in
association with Curry’s Unanimous Media. The project is the first to
emerge after Curry and his Unanimous Media struck a global talent
partnership with NBCUniversal in 2021, which includes first-look
development deals with Universal Studio Group for scripted and
unscripted television projects and DreamWorks Animation for kids and
family content.

“Making the natural transition from behind the camera to center stage
opposite Adam Pally, we can’t wait for the world to see what we have in
store,” Curry said for Deadline’s story on the project last year.

Golden State Warriors point guard Curry launched Unanimous Media, which
is behind ABC gameshow Holey Moley and Apple docuseries Underrated, in 2018.

Pally is a lead human cast member of the upcoming live-action/animated
Sonic spinoff Knuckles. He also did an arc on Season 1 of Netflix’s
Arnold Schwarzenegger series Fubar.

Caspe is best known for creating ABC’s Happy Endings, which starred
Pally, Showtime’s Black Monday, and NBC’s Kenan and Marry Me. He also
co-created YouTube series Champaign ILL and recently executive produced
Netflix’s Blockbuster.

Brothers Matthew and Daniel Libman have worked with Caspe on Happy
Endings, Black Monday, Kenan and Champaign ILL as well as The Mick and
Solar Opposites.
