Last night Utah's two starting guards scored some 70 points between
them. This has been a recurring problem. Wiggins and Kuminga can check
opposing wings and maybe slower SGs but not faster guards. Steph had
worked himself up to being decent defensively, but he has almost no
defensive presence at this point that I can see. Podziemski, while adept
at drawing charges, seems to be below-average in one-on-one defense.
Klay used to be the defensive stopper for smaller players, but those
days are behind him. Payton is very good, of course, but his lack of
offense limits his playing time. He did play some in the fourth quarter
last night, so maybe Kerr will consider him as a closing option when the
Warriors are ahead.
