I could be wrong but I don't think they'll be in a position to get a
good lowpost scorer, unless they take a chance on a foreign player. But
they could get someone who at least fills Monroe's role as a rebounder,
and I don't think it would be hard to get someone who at least equaled
him as a defender.
On the other hand, they have to be thinking about the SF spot too, so
it's possible they'll see if Monroe can be replaced by some kind of
committee.
The fact that the Knicks dropped to #4 in the draft means they'll
probably not get Towns or Okafor, and they'll have an extra incentive to
go after Monroe. However, they're so dysfunctional and Dolan appears to
be going after the crown Donald Sterling vacated as worst NBA owner, so
it's very possible he won't take any amount of money to go there. That
probably tips the odds just a little bit in Detroit's favor of keeping
Monroe, but I still think he's gone. I don't really get what Van
Gundy's vision of this team is, and I doubt it's really clear to Monroe
either.
