I have never understood when they are designing baseball stadiums why
they allow different design dimensions from the infield to the outfield
perimeter.
Some have different feet lengths along the right side;some the left.A
few even have different centerfield dimensions.
One would think that in any sport they would want a uniform
standard. Why is this the case? Pardon me for my historical ignorance, but
I could not find any references online that addresses this subject or
the rationale for doing it.

I suspect that the lack of tight regulation is rooted in the history of
baseball. Originally baseball was played in a variety of fields, that were
not specifically designed for the game. The rules of baseball were written
to accommodate the existing fields. For example the minimum distance for a
home run was set at 250 feet because the (now demolished) Polo Grounds had a
foul line distance of 251 feet. The dimensions of new professional fields
are more restricted, but there is still much room for leeway.

Historically, fields were built to fit in odd-sized and -shaped lots in
cities, so you ended up with all sorts of odd-sized and -shaped
ballfields. We had cookie-cutter fields built in the 70s and they're all
gone now and everyone hated them because they were sterile and
personality-less. Just as there is no set time for a baseball game,
there are no set dimensions for the field (outside the infield, of
course); and it's not just distances to the fences in the outfield--look
at the difference in the size of foul areas (Oakland may have the
biggest, and that adds another dimension to the fields).

Basically, it's all part of the charm and personality of baseball.
