Hi,
To my knowledge these are the ways you can get to 1st in a game.
Hit
Base On Balls
Intentional Walk
Error
Fielders Choice
HBP
Catcher Interference
Passed Ball On Strike 3
If there are anymore please let me know. I would also like to know the
descripion/example of catcher interference and the passed ball on strike 3 as I
am not clear on those. Any help will be greatly appreciated. E-Mail me at

Another way is a player can enter the game as a pinch runner, but then it is
important to phrase the question as a PLAYER rech first and not the BATTER.

catchers interference- the batter is attempting to swing, or even holding the
bat and the catcher with his glove, makes contact with the ball.

passed ball on strike 3. It dosen't have to be a passed ball, even ithough it
usually is.
Basically, if the third strike is dropped, the batter gets credit for a
strikeout, but to complete the outm the batter has to be tagged, or thrown out
at first. First base has to be open if less then 2 outs, ANd yes, a pitcher
can get 4 K's in an inning this way, which has happened.

I'm not sure about the catchers interference, but I do know about the passed
ball.
If the ball is thrown and it is strike 3 and the ball hits the ground before
the catchers gets a glove on it the batter gets to run to first, but the
catcher has to try and throw him out. Most of the time they only make it to
first if the ball goes to the back-stop, but sometimes it bounces in-front
of the catcher and the runner is too far away to tag so the catcher attempts
to throw to first and makes a bad throw. Then it is just like an error by
any other fielder trying to throw out the runner if he put the ball in play.
I hope this is helps.
