Hopefully the Foli/bench coach announcement will come today. How long
until the winter meetings?

Does it really matter?
The Nats don't have a roster to be competitive. A great manager might
make them suck less, but I'm not sure that anyone could take this team
up to playing 500 ball.
Managers get a lot of glory, up until they are fired because you can't
fire the whole team and front office. I'm not convinced that they are
worth more than 10 or so wins a season.
I agree. Riggleman did take the team from .299 to .440. What Rizzo
does between today and Opening Day will have much more impact on the
2010 season than what Riggleman does during the season.

The manager represents the team to the player wanting to come here. Some
players might be influenced by who they are playing under. The manager *is*
the guy making decisions on how a player is used.
Who wants to come play for Riggleman?.......That's a good question.
Yeah, but who wants to come to a team that if it works really well will
play 450 ball and be 20+ games out of the post season. Some guys want
money, others want to play on a winning team. The first guys might come
to the Nats, the second never will.
Didn't Billy Martin really turn the 1980 A's around with his
BillyBall?

And the Nats played like hired guns for much of this past season. A .450
career manager on his fourth chance doesn't offer much of a glimmer of hope
to that second group. It's a two-year deal, with an option for a third year,
so I guess we can continue with the evaluating and developing until 2012...
