What does "breakthrough" mean???...... exactly.....

Organizational report: Nats' young talent provides hope By Seth Livingstone,
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/nl/nationals/2009-11-19-nationals-organizational-report_N.htm

"....team President Stan Kasten sounds like a man who wants to go shopping.
"We expect next year to be a breakthrough year for us," Kasten says. "We
still need pieces, and we're going to go out there and get them, whether by
trade or by free agency."

"We have pieces that are attractive to other teams," general manager Mike
Rizzo says. "We're leaving all avenues open. We're going to do what's best
for the ballclub in the long term. We have several needs, and we're going to
try to fill them by free agency, by trade or by waiver claim - any way we
can."
