Originally? I dunno. But this season, they call him that for stealing this
organization's money on that new contract.

Years ago there was a series of PSA's featuring a cartoon character-McGruff
the Crime Dog. McGriff~McGruff.

"bite out of crime." The dog's name was McGruff the Crime Dog.

McGriff got the nickname crime dog from the king of nicknames, Chris
Berman. And miracle of miracles, it is the only Berman nickname I can
remember that actually stuck with the guy.
