The NBC Sports stars will team up for one game next week. It will be
Michaels' first time calling a baseball game since 1995.

Hmmz. If they promote it sufficiently (so that I know when it's happening
without a lot of effort) I might actually watch it. OTOH, it's almost
sure to be a Yankees game.

You mean you don't like listening to how great the game used to be (when
the Yankees won a lot more than they do now), and how bad it is now?

The article linked above stated that Michaels and Costas will be
broadcasting the Mets-Giants game on July 8 on the MLB Network.

The Giants are a big favorite among top-level sportscasters. I don't know
why -- maybe people based in LA think of San Francisco as their vacation
home.

Maybe it is because the sportscasters are old enough that they still think
of the Giants as their favorite New York team?

I don't know why. SF is a denser city than LA and more metropolitian.
In fact, it has the second largest density of any major city in the
nation. If broadcasters like SF it is because its a terrific town, one
of the truly great places to go and the new stadium is just gorgeous and
within walking distances of downtown. I have deep affection for SF.
Great people. Wonderful food, shopping, theater, and I can spend my
life in Salcalito.

That would be the ball park.

Al Michaels was a broadcaster for the Giants prior to coming to ABC in
the early 1970s. And he was of course, at the center of the Loma
Prieta earthquake during the 1989 World Series. So naturally, there's
a close connection going in.

Well, which baseball city do you think is better to visit than SF?

Boston (Fenway) is a great baseball city to go to.

If you mean what city among those which have a MLB team would be my
favorite city to visit for a vacation, you couldn't beat Frisco. Lots of
places I would love to spend a few days or a week: San Diego, LA, Seattle,
Chicago, NYC, Boston, Washington.

If you are including the actual baseball, the equation changes. I haven't
been to the new stadium in SF, but Candlestick was a miserable ball park.

Yeah, here's a reliable source of info on watching baseball in SF, the
"new" stadium has been here over a decade and hosted two WS.

It's a great stadium to see a game. Walking the outfield wall during
the game certainly is a plus.

Also since his days as the Giants broadcaster in the 1970's, Michaels has
lived in the Bay Area in a suburb south of San Francisco.

Don't know if they're better, but I would rate them just as good: New York
City, Boston, Chicago, and DC.

Well, you're the one who said you don't know why the Giants are a big
favorite among top-level sportscasters. I think you've just answered
your own question. :-)
