OK,

I've compiled still another list (rough as it may be) of team names.
These are all (with noted exceptions) defunct teams. This list is
names of defunct AAA minor league teams. I got most of this from Mike
McCann's Minor League Baseball Page at
http://www.geocities.com/big_bunko/ which has an amazing amount of
info about the histories of various minor league teams. Any team names
where there's now a major league team with the same name as their
minor league counterpart had (ie Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers,
Los Angels Angels, San Diego Padres, etc) I have left off this list.

I also list the teams of the International Basketball Lague, a minor
league that lasted from 1999-2001.

Pacific Coast League (I've left out the major league names teams like
San Diego Padres)

Albuquergue Dukes
Calgary Cannons
Eugene Emeralds
Hawaii Islanders
Hollywood Stars
Los Angeles Angels
Mission Reds (Bells)
Ogden A's
Phoenix Giants/Firebirds
Salt Lake City Bees
Salt Lake City Gulls
San Jose Missions
San Francisco Seals
Sacramento Solons
Seattle Indians/Rainers
Spokane Indians
Tacoma Giants
Tacoma Tigers
Vancouver Mounties
Vancouver Canadians
Vernon Tigers

American Association

Charleston Senators
Columbus Senators/RedBirds
Dallas/Ft Worth Rangers
Denver Bears/Zephyrs
Evansville Triplets
Fort Worth Cats
Kansas City Blues
Houston Buffs
Iowa Oaks
Minneapolis Millers
Oklahoma City 89ers
Omaha Cardinals
Omaha Dodgers
Springfield Redbirds
St Paul Apostles/Saints
Tulsa Oilers
Wichita Aeros
Wichita Braves

International League

Atlanta Crackers
Havana Sugar Kings (the last season of this team was when Fidel took
over Cuba and they were moved temporarily to the states before
folding)
Jersey City Skeeters
Louisville Colonels (also an American Association team for years)
Maine Guides
Montreal Royals
Newark Indians/Sailors/Bears
Ottawa A's
Peninsula Whips
Providence Grays
Reading Keystones
Richmond Climbers/Virginians
Rochester Hustlers/Tribe
Toronto Maple Leafs
Winnipeg Whips
Worchester Hustlers

And moving to basketball, there's the International Basketball League,
a minor league that lasted a cpl years and went belly up in 2001,
after attempting a merger with ABA2000 which for various reasons fell
through. However, at least according to JVV4sm's latest post, ABA2000
is still around and attempting more expansion.

International Basketball League

Baltimore Bayrunners
Cincinnati Stuff
Richmond Rhythm
Trenton Shooting Stars
Las Vegas Silver Bandits
New Mexico Slam
San Diego Stingrays
Saint Louis Swarm
Sioux Falls Skyforce *
Rockford Lightning *
Grand Rapids Hoops
Connecticut Pride
Gary Steelheads *

* Past and present CBA teams that joined the IBL after the CBA
temporarily folded in 2001 and rejoined the CBA when it reformed.

Hawaii Islanders hit home. I watched them play at the old stadium
in Honolulu and out at Aloha Stadium. I listened to Al Michaels
and Les Keiter recreate their road games when they were off island.

Fascinating. Although I really enjoyed Les Keiter's rebroadcasts.

He's still around and has a radio show where he does historical
perspective pieces. I'm not sure, but he may be on the board of
directors for Aloha Stadium.

The San Jose Slammers were in that league, werent they?
I thought I recalled them playing the Skyforce once - but perhaps that was
when the Skyforce was with CBA

Nope..CBA. They also had a team for a year or two in Santa Barbara
that I think moved to Bakersfield.

I have an old CBA guide. I need to get another one of these days.

Keiter is older than Methuselah! I've met the guy twice and he's got
an amazing memory. He once knocked Howard Cosell out of the way so he
could interview Ali. He's a character alright.
