with regards to the note from our helpful friend from SoCal... a choke is
defined as "to lose one's composure and fail to perform effectively in a
critical situation". As the Mariners have failed to perform effectively
pretty much all season, how could this final stretch be a choke?

sigh. maybe I'm just really depressed from looking up their LOB numbers
for the last few months....

The M's have nothing to hang their heads about.
They had a good year. They simply are not as good as Oakland and the Angels.
This happens to some teams every baseball season.
It is no choke.
you wanna know e real choke....the 1987 Blue Jays.
Man, did that hurt!

I dunno, man, yesterday sure looked like a choke to me. We already knew
Anaheim had lost, we had Moyer going against some guy I've never heard of,
and we still can't close the deal. Our chances were remote to begin with,
but it would have been fun to go into this series with Anaheim only 6 back,
with 6 games left against them. I just hope we can somehow pull off a sweep
this weekend and pray that Texas fucks them up while we take on the A's.
It's the longest of long shots, but that's what we've been reduced to thanks
to this wretched stretch of play the last 30 games or so.

Bull. It's not just John. I've thought John was one of the people who
actually hit once in a while with RISP. The past two months, we've been
taking bets at the office on exactly how many men the M's will leave on
base any particular night. It's pathetic. Their RISP has to be one of
the lowest of all time.

Really?
How about--as one post implies--they hang their heads about their poor
performance with RISP?
