He doesn't deserve it; everyone else in St. Louis I can be happy for in
this ending.
It was weird seeing him in the celebration -- I'd kinda forgotten about him.

He does deserve it. He didn't pitch well this season but he was a
substantial contributor to the team's regular season run, which led to the
playoffs. He was obviously hurt and I hope he's better after his surgery.

I've always wondered how I would react in that situation. Would I
celebrate if I felt I had not made a significant contribution?
I think he made a significant contribution. Even with his
below-replacement-level 7.14 ERA. He pitched 93 innings.
Note that significant doesn't mean *good*. Just significant.

You'd pretty much have to. Each player isn't just celebrating for
himself - they're celebrating for each other. Imagine your teammates'
reactions if you didn't join them.

6-7 with a 7.14 ERA makes a substantial ccontributor? Dude, you need
your head examined.
It's worse than 2003, when he missed the playoffs for the A's. At least
he won 15 games for the A's that year before ducking out. Or 2004 for
the A's, when his second half slide helped lose the division title for
the A's. Or 2005, when his 0-2 record in the NLCS helped bury the
Cards.
Please ... the guy isn't a contributor; he's a putz.

Kind of like Jeff Weaver made a significant contribution to the Angels
in 2006, too?

Imagine your teammates reaction if you joined them "too much" when you
didn't do dick to help them out ...
He has a ring. He is part of the team. He should celebrate.
