As a DH. That's the latest rumor I keep hearing.

At the right price, excellent pickup.

He looks like he'll be the A's new DH in 2007. My first thought was,
"Yuck!" But after further review, I think it's a good start to the
overall needs the team faces in the off-season.

While clearly past his prime, Piazza can still be a good hitter. Away
from Petco Park last year, he had a .935 OPS. Against lefties, he had
an OPS of 1.072, so he solves the A's issues there (when Thomas left, I
mean). Day games, his OPS was .993, and in eight ABs against the A's,
his OPS was 1.556 -- not like the A's would play the Padres a lot, but
it's better to have a guy like this on your team than hitting against
your team.

Used properly, Piazza can be an asset to the A's. And like last year,
the A's get a future Hall of Famer in their uniform for at least a
season. Plus, he's a Giants killer. That's always a good thing.
