:So apparently, all Yankees fans must be fans of the 86 coke addicted Mets
:since they still continue to carry the Doc and the Straw. But then again
:people have always known that the Yankess enjoy some outcast players such
:as Luis Polonia, David Cone, and the original drunk himself Mickey Mantle.
:As for this current bunch of Yankees Players I have a good deal of respect
:for them; however, my problem comes from condescending Yankees' fans who
:think that since their team won all the titles back in the 50s and 60s that
:makes them the greatest forever. I follow the theory of what have you done
:for me lately, which until last year meant nothing in the 80s and very
:little in the 90s until their miracle run.
If you follow that theory, then you must admit the Yankees are the greatest.
Because lately, they are the defending World Champs.

The Yankees are the most recognized sports franchise in the world. They have doubled the championship output
of every other Major league team. They have had some of the most storied players in the history of baseball.
Arriving to the ballpark for the start of the World Series, John Smoltz said Yankee stadium is a cathedral to
baseball. The stadium has also been called baseball's home office. Needless to say the Yankee's history is a
rich tapestry of baseball lore, and calling Mickey Mantle "the original drunk," is both foolish and evil.
This was a great man, a man who died confronting his demons and trying to pass some good on to the world. He
was also a consumate player who would hit monster homeruns that most of today's players only dream of hitting
and run around the bases with his head down as if embarrassed.
What have they done lately. Last year World Champions. Oh, but you'll dismiss that as a miracle. So when did
Jesus come down and perform this miracle. Did he throw out the first pitch. Two years ago they played one of
the great 5 game series in baseball history. 3 years ago they were on their way to a world series when they
went on strike. That's pretty good baseball. To dismiss it because they are not in first place in June is
ignorant. Teams have played over 50 years without winning ONE world series. So if they "hang around and make
a good run at it," that's not having a good season.
One more point, in the age of free-agency no team dominates, or its' VERY, VERY rare. Since free-agency really
became a force in the early 80s only one team has once back-to-back championships. The Toronto Blue Jays.
Before that- The 77-78 Yankees.
