Scorned wife accuses Miracle Met of affair by revealing lurid e-mails

NEW YORK - The scorned wife of Miracle Met Art Shamsky accuses the ex-
outfielder of sleeping with a Rye secretary and has sent the woman's
husband 175 e-mails she says document their longstanding affair.

She has now shared the sordid details with The Journal News, the
woman's hometown paper, in hopes of disgracing her "so she can't show
her face in public."

Kim Shamsky, 47, a temp agency entrepreneur who accuses her spouse of
sponging off her fortune, subpoenaed alleged mistress Toni Magnane,
57, last week to force her to participate in the Shamskys divorce
brawl.

On Thursday, Kim Shamsky went public by inviting a reporter to the
swanky Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center, where she unveiled an inch-
thick stack of e-mails in which her husband and Magnane discuss
romantic liaisons, declare love for each other and engage in kinky sex
talk.

"Just left you and feel empty - long to be with you as well," Magnane
wrote in April 2005 to the ex-big leaguer, who played for the 1969
world champion Mets.

"I think we need to change our tactics. I do not want to be consumed
with finding a place to stay. ... I want to be in your arms so badly.
I want you to kiss me all over. Talk to me tenderly, please!"

Shamsky writes her the same month: "I want you to know that I want to
be with you in every way and I miss your hands on mine and of course
your lips on mine. Your laugh, idiosyncrasies and paranoia are so much
a part of my life now, the best part I might add, and I long to be
with you."

Art Shamsky, 65, his lawyer and Magnane did not return repeated phone
calls yesterday. Magnane's husband, Al, answered their home phone and
when asked for comment said, "I don't even want to take the call,
bye," before hanging up.

Kim Shamsky, however, reveled in the prospect of getting this story
out, wearing a black Marc Jacobs sweater dress, freshly styled hair
and Cartier gold watch so she would look her best for Thursday's
interview.

She copied the e-mails in the office of her famed divorce attorney,
William Beslow, whose previous clients include Donald Trump's ex Marla
Maples and actor Robert De Niro. She highlighted the juiciest lines in
yellow - including several in which Art Shamsky expresses a desire to
retain his bodily fluids in a way that reminds her of the George C.
Scott character in "Dr. Strangelove."

She said she was heartbroken when she discovered the messages upon
logging onto his e-mail account in December 2005. She confronted him
about it on her birthday the next month, slapping his face in a
midtown Japanese restaurant, she said. A day later, the couple had
their final blowup - a fight in their Manhattan townhouse that ended
with her calling the police after, she alleges, he choked her.

The ex-Met served the divorce papers later that month, accusing her of
"cruel and inhuman treatment," of regularly belittling him in front of
friends and family, calling him weak and stating "she was the man of
the house and he was nothing." She instigated violent arguments on an
almost weekly basis, at times spitting in his face, throwing keys at
him and locking him out of their home, according to the court papers.
She also spread false rumors that he had AIDS, according to the legal
documents, which also say he required antidepressants and therapy to
deal with the distress she caused.

In her counterclaim, she called the marriage a sham, saying he married
her "solely to rid himself of his personal debt and for financial
gain."

Kim Shamsky said she believes he had been planning the divorce for
years, hoping to win a heavy share of the "double-digit" millions she
earned by starting several temporary employment agencies.

She is currently paying him more than $5,000 a month in spousal
support as the case proceeds in court, and he is seeking much more.
She said the relationship for him had always been about money.

"Art would never have anything if it wasn't for me," she told The
Journal News, figuring she has given him about $3 million during their
marriage, set him up with a book deal and a guest role on "Everybody
Loves Raymond," and stroked his ego as he relived his glory days. This
wasn't easy, she said, because she hates the Mets and, "He wasn't a
very good ballplayer."

"But I made him feel like he was special," she said. "I let him live
in the past and I promoted it, which may have been part of the
problem. I felt like I was his mommy."

Shamsky showed flashes of power early in his career, hitting 21 home
runs in 234 at-bats for the Reds in 1966, including four in four
consecutive at-bats. He hit .300 during the Mets' championship year in
'69. However, his promise never blossomed consistently, and back
problems forced him out of the game in 1972. A member of the New York
Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, he spent a few years announcing for the
Mets and also became a real estate consultant.

When Art and Kim married in 1994 in St. John's in the Virgin Islands,
it was the second for both of them. She said she should have known
they were doomed when he told her on their flight home that she should
keep the marriage a secret for a year.

Over the next decade, she said, he pursued "many, many" women, even
maintaining a separate bachelor pad. But none was as serious as Toni
Magnane, she said, referring to her as a "pimple on my (rear end)."

The e-mails are mostly from 2005. Besides the sex parts, Kim Shamsky
said she also learned that Magnane was keeping his signed picture in
her bedroom and that Art Shamsky chose "By Design" to be their special
song - the same one the Shamskys danced to at their wedding.

Kim Shamsky phoned Magnane's husband to tell him about it, then faxed
and FedEx'd copies of the e-mails to him.

"He hung up on me at first," she said.

Later, he called and told her, "You're ruining my life," and
threatened to sue for harassment, she said.

"I asked him, 'Why wouldn't you want to know?' " she said. "Wouldn't
you want to know what your wife is doing?"

Kim Shamsky said she feels liberated to finally expose the affair
during what has otherwise been a tough year. Besides the divorce
battle, her townhouse caught fire, she underwent radiation treatment
for breast cancer and had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed
because tumors were found.

She said she can't wait to see the reaction to the story. Asked
whether she worries about this hurting Magnane and her family, she
replied, "Oh, it's my pleasure. It's my pleasure."

"I think Toni will realize that her life was fake," she said. "She
thought Art was in love with her. Art doesn't know what love is, he
only knows what money is. ... And to sleep with a so-called athlete
who's 65 years old? It's not like he's Derek Jeter."

"I think the truth is the truth. It's very hard sometimes with laws
for justice to be done. But as Art said to a friend of mine, quote
unquote, 'Kim is small, but she is lethal.' "

The petite Shamsky then flashed a big smile and said: "I'll end it
like that."

Have any of Jeet's numerous exes ever actually fought to keep him?

He's a dick. I worked with him and some other "69 Mets" back in 1999.
He's a dick.
