On Friday at the Mets' spring training facility in Port St. Lucie, FLA.,
manager Buck Showalter talked about top prospect catcher Francisco
Alvarez's development.

“Just another step in his process,” Showalter told reporters. “He made
it up in the big leagues for a short stint and fought through some
injuries. He’s getting more stripes on his arm.”

With Alvarez looking to assert himself into the mix with fellow catchers
Tomas Nido and Omar Narvaez, he will have a chance to prove himself in
big-league camp this spring.

If he's not going to be the #1 catcher, he might be better off staying
in the minors for awhile. These prospects need to be playing every day,
not sitting.

I disagree and I'm sort of getting disgusted with this manta. There is
no way I am leaving a 30+ HR Major League ready bat in the minor leagues
until he learns to block the balls and frame. He will just have to
learn on the job.

Gary Carter was 21 years old when he camae up.

Silly. Our two stud starters LIVE on (and most of the time barely off) the corners...framing is probably more important this year than ever before. To just assume Alvarez is a 30 HR guy is just dumb. Let him get reps in AAA for at least for the 1st month or so. If he's raking like Mike Trout in Cedar Rapids and displays ML-caliber D, bring him up. He won't even be 22 until the end of the season.
