Sad to hear, although not too surprising after seeing how he looked at the Old Timers Day event.

He was one of the few bright spots in that era of Mets history. And tough as nails. I'll never forget that play where big Dave Parker (then with the Pirates) tried to bowl him over trying to score, and Stearns held his ground. Also remember Dick Williams calling him "a fucking football player"

Was pissed when the trade for McGraw first happened but learned to love Stearns. Guy could steal bases, too. Tough mofo.
