He received 27 of 28 first place votes. Miguel Cabrera received one
first place vote denying Mauer the unanimous pick. Must be one of the
same idiot Detroit writers that voted for Leyland for Manager of the
Year.
Congratulations Joe Mauer!
Joe just gets more expensive by the day.
I was really surprised, not that Mauer won, but that the voting was so
lopsided. And I guess I assumed Jeter would come in second, and even
that didn't happen.

And count me in too on the congratulations. He certainly deserved it.
Now if we can only talk him into staying a TWIN for the rest of his
career. He should NOT follow the money but follow his heart. Stay
close to HOME, fella.

Do both. Stay here and get all the money too.
Might as well, otherwise the most likely scenario in a few years from
now the Vikings move to LA and Mauer plays for the Yankees, so all
we'll have to look forward to for sports is if the Timberwolves can
win more than 10 games in a season, and if the Gophers football team
continue its tradition of being a college football powerhouse by
making it to the prestigious Insight or Little Caesars Pizza Bowls
every year.
How much money will be enuf, do ya think?
I loved the picture of Joe hugging his mom in the paper this morning.
Brought tears to my eyes.
I'm saving the "special" in the paper re: Joe too. I'll add it to my
pile of '87 and 91 memories.
AnnE Thanks, Joe, for a GREAT and fun
season! We'll get to the big one again.........hopefully very soon.
You, of all people, deserve it.
> How much money will be enuf, do ya think?
I think it starts at $20M a year and could go to $22.5M a year.
OK, so let's all make our predictions. I maybe overly optimistic in
my belief that the Twins will certainly sign Joe Mauwer to a contract
extension this off-season. Assuming that is correct, what will the
terms of the contract be?
My guess: $18 million a year for 10 years. That way he can claim that
he didn't really discount the deal since basically nobody gets a 10
year contract (except A-Rod). If that is not the deal, then I will
say: $24 million a year for 4 years.
Other possibilities?

Base salary of $17 million for 6 years, with incentives that give him
up to a few million more based on how many games he plays, batting
title rank, MVP finish, etc. Then tack on several option years at $20-
$24 million a year that automatically are picked up with 500 plate
apperances the previous season, so he still gets the big bucks if he
performs, but if he gets perpetually injured, the Twins aren't doomed
for all those extra years.
> I think it starts at $20M a year and could go to $22.5M a year.
And will be for at least 6 years. And will be signed before 2010 rolls
around.
