One again proving that the Gold Glove award means nothing.
It's supposed to be for the best defensive player at a position but it is
usually given to the player with the best offensive stats.
Laird was better defensively.
Apparently you have to be a good hitter to win the award.
Makes sense.

Laird is very good. He lacks the athleticism of Mauer. I doubt that he
makes many plays like these:

I agree that Laird is a good defensive catcher. Too bad he can't hit
any better than Nick Punto. But that play where Mauer dives to home
plate against the Yankees? I don't think I have ever seen any catcher
do anything like that. Not ever.
