KANSAS CITY (Rueters) -- They've
put the champagne on ice in the Kansas
City Royals' locker room
The Royals are virtually assured
of winning their first World Series in
29 years now that Stephen Hawking has
agreed to sing "God Bless America" for
the final two games.
"We're relieved," said Manager
Ned Yost. "Good ol' Steve did it before
and we know he can damn well do it again.
"True, the San Francisco Giants
lead the series, 3-2, but now we have
'em right where we what them."
Hawking's stirring rendition of
"God Bless America" for Game Three
helped to Royals win going away and
the team physician said his tonsils
are still in really good shape "and
he certainly can do it again."
As everyone knows, Hawking is the
famed astrophysicist and cosmologist
who, for the longest time, insisted
God didn't exist.
However, an accidental whack on
the head -- a low ceiling -- brought
Steve to his senses a few weeks ago
and transformed him into a born-again
Christian.
He also became God's No. 1 fan
after reading http://www.edconrad.org
on his computer back at his home in
Cambridge, England.
Incidentally, Steve's love of
baseball has a lot to with his
motor neuron disease (also known
as Lou Gehrig's Disease), honoring
one of the sport's all-time greats.
