And since then he has had two fairly mediocre outings, including
today's loss (giving up four earned runs to Oakland). Such is Verlander.
A good pitcher? Sure. An "ace"? Not so much, IMO.
Should be interesting to see how he does in the second half of the season.

LOL, thanks for proving my point on some other threads. Yeah, after winning
9 of 10, 2 so so outings. He must be done. He will be fine, good
pitching coach this year, has really helped him.

One response about Verlander's last couple of outings proves
no point, other than the fact that he can be inconsistent.

I still contend that he is prone to have losing streaks, and can
be a very inconsistent pitcher. He was downright bad last season.
He has a career ERA of 4.02 and a WHIP of 1.31. Not exactly "ace"
numbers.
I think Jackson has a better case for being the Tigers ace this season
than Verlander does.

Well, I agree with you on last year and early this year, but since his bad
start this year, once he started winning, he was as consistant as he as ever
been. I don't think going by his last 2 games, changes that yet. While I
would say he is not ACE for career, I think he has come back to be their ACE
this year.
Jackson has been a great addition this year. If the Tigers had a 3rd
starter that was solid, they would be all set in that department. If
Galaraga could bring his pitching from last year, I think the Tigers would
be golden pitching wise. Now, Galaraga has turned it around lately but I
will need some more starts to be convinced.

he starts to pitch poorly, it really gets into his head and causes

Galarraga started the season nicely, but sort of fell apart. But on
the bright side, I think the kid Porcello is pretty decent. And he
hits well too! The kid should play in the NL.
Overall, the Tigers pitching has been a real surprise this season, and
the sleepy offense is a bit of a surprise as well. But, they have been
playing a lot better than I thought they would this season. I just
wonder if they can keep it up throughout the second half, when the
Tigers traditionally start to struggle.
At least now it's an interesting division race again. Should be a fun
remainder of the season.
