Who is the person on the right of the following picture wearing uniform number 62? The last names appears to start with "S-I-E".

http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CIN/1975-roster.shtml gives the
players. No player fits that description.

I see an Si and a 6 or an 8 on his back with another digit likely after
that.

I thought maybe George Scherger, but that doesn't fit and he doesn't
look like a coach. Scherger leads to the rest of the staff. Anderson,
Grammas, Kluszewski...and Larry Shepard was the pitching coach. In 75,
Shepard would have been 56. I can see that as the guy in your picture.
What I see as an i on his back could be the begining of an h.

But coaches don't wear numbers that high.
http://www.affordablehomegoods.com/reds/uniform_numbers.htm
lists Shepard as wearing 4 in 73,76 and 78.

Further more nobody wore 6, 8 or anything higher than Pat Darcy's 44.

Hmmm. Anybody?

I do love a mystery, especially one where the only good clue is a decades old photo. Trying to track this guy down, i feel just like that guy from Girl with the Dragon Tatoo (either version).

theories:

1) Its the bullpen catcher (or some other coach).

I have no idea who that would be or even if the Reds employed someone strictly for that task back then. I have found the team photo from that year, and extra people are included, such as the trainer and batboy etc, but no bullpen catcher.
If not the bullpen coach, then maybe some other coach added to the staff just for the postseason, to hit fungoes or something like that; perhaps a coach from AAA or a roving instructor.

2) Its Si Burick.

That would explain what appears to be S-I-E on the back. But beyond that, it makes no sense. he would have been up in the pressbox watching the last out. He would have been older than the man pictured. He likely wouldnt have a jersey unless it was an honorary thing. That dude is in full uniform. Even if Si did have a uniform, would he run down and change in time for the third out? No. he has a job to do.

3) Someone is wearing an emergency uniform.

Maybe someone f'd up thier jersey and Bernie Stowe has a backup. But why would there be a name on that Jersey, and what would that name be. Maybe it was a jersey from a minor leaguer, from spring training, and Bernie keeps the jersey around for emergencies.

Someone out there has the video of the 1975 World Series. Watch it, zoom in and slow or freeze frame the on-field celebration. Maybe get more info on the name. There is video of the celebration on youtube, but i am unable to adequately manipulate it.

Other than that, i'll keep at it when i can.

Mystery solved - his name is Art Siefert. He and Joe Nuxhall were the batting practice pitchers. I looked at the DVD of Game 7 of the 1975 Series, saw him during the clubhouse celebration and got the full name from the back of the jersey. He has a business in Cincinnati which specializes in team uniforms and equipment for local schools. They confirmed the info when I called them.

Thanks for the help, guys!
