What do reds fans have to look forward to here? Maybe bringing Javier
Valentin back or extending the contract of Willy T.? Tongue and cheek of
course.

What rumors have you heard?

I think I hear David Weathers sneaking back in...Actually I think I
missed him at the end of last year!

Jamey Carrol

Nothing to write home about.

My guess is that they bring back Gomes and go into the 10 season much
the way they came out of the 09 season. Hope for some health and that
some of the kids step up.

Carrol is 35 and hasnt played SS in 2 years. I think that would be a
horrible pickup. Crosby cant hit a lick, we have that already. Lowry
is coming off 2 years of injury and would be a longshot prospect. I
would pass on all 3. I think we have guys at AAA who can do just as
well, and theyre risk-free.

Theres the Bowden tweet about the Reds having some interest in
Orlando Cabrera and Miguel Tejada. yeah right. Anybody here subscribe
to Bowdens tweets? Anybody here have anything at all to do with
tweeting? I dont even own a television.

Jocketty is looking at bringing back Hairston as the super-sub. As
long as he's cheap and doesnt start games at SS that might be ok. But
I think they are much better off giving that role to Frazier.

Theres scuttlebutt about moving Harang and eating a big chucnk of his
salary. I'm hearing nothing about the possibility of moving Cordero to
make some payroll room. i dont understand why they wouldnt, but what
do i know.

I counted and the Reds are at 40 players on the roster. The rule V
draft is Dec 10, so it doesnt look like theres any help coming from
there unless they clear a spot. The Yankees traded Brian Bruney to the
Senators supposedly for the first pick in the draft, so they must have
thier sights on somebody. You'd think this would be an avenue that the
Reds would definitely explore each year.

There was a blurb on the MLB site about the Rangers looking for
pitching help and they've been talking to the agent of Arthur Rhodes.

"Sullivan reported that the club has reached out to the agents of
veteran left-handers Darren Oliver and Arthur Rhodes, ..."

That has to be an error since Rhodes is under contract to the Reds.

On a final note, I have genuine replica NBA jerseys marked down 15%.
All the cool kids will be wearing authentic knockoffs of NBA jerseys
from the 1980's. Wearing a vintage imitation Kurt Rambis jersey,
you'll look like you can ball even if your skinny white ass cant.
Supplies are limited so order now. Sorry, no personal checks. Offer
not valid in Montana.

The reds bullpen is actually pretty full.

Cordero/Masset/Rhodes
Burton/Herrera/Owings

Both Bray and Lincoln seem to have the trust of the front office.
That's 8.
Plus Viola and Fischer...
After Roenekce left AAA they gave the closing job to Logan Andrusek. He
did a decent job with it and is on the 40 man roster.

That's 11 guys that could pitch more than a little be in the bullpen.
Plus I believe Matt Maloney will be out of options and isn't going to
crack the starting rotation.

Without several deals, it's very hard to see the reds putting stormy
back on the roster.

I have a question about the 40 man roster. What makes you keep
Cordero and Traveres on there? Is it a thing where if you don't
have them on the 40 man another team can claim them for the minimum
and you have to eat the rest of the salary?

I guess that's the rule 5 thing where other teams can pick up a
player for 100k and then have to keep them on their major league
roster for one year.

Maybe that's a rule change that could be implemented to help out the
smaller market teams. Nobody would pick up Traveres
at 4 million but at least you are protecting one more guy, probably
a younger guy with at least a future. If I recall the Reds lost a
player to the rule 5 draft last year.

It would make future negoations with free agents tough in a what goes around
comes around way, but you could live with that if you didn't get burned too
bad.
Putting Cordero off the 40 man roster would make him freely available to
anybody while the reds picked up his salary. You wouldn't do that, but you
might do it with Taverable.

That's more for minor leaguers. If a guy has shown enough minor league
promise that another team wants him, but you don't want him on your 40 man
roster...you lose him. It's actually designed to help low budget teams like
the reds.

A pitcher went to Washington.

The reds are likely to lose Danny Dorn this year. He's a lefty hitter that
started real slow in AAA and then really came on at the end of the year. I
think he's got a pretty big rule v target on his back. Give him 100 at bats
and if he fails you send him back to the reds at a cost of far less than a
real free agent.

The reds ended up losing Ben Jukich to the cardinals in the rule v draft.

I think it's a reach. Jukich didn't project to help the Reds at all this
year, but then Dave Duncan tends to make gold out of other teams dross.

The Dodgers signed Carroll, so we've dodged 2 of these bulletts
(crosby to the bucs). 2 years at 4 mil+
