...Just reading an account of the 1929 World Series between the
Philadelphia A's & Chicago Cubs where the bench jockeying got so bad
with profane language ans all that Judge Landis had to call both
Managers aside (Connie Mack & Joe McCarthy) & warn them to tell their
players to "tone it down". Just wondering if modern teams still
"bench jockey"?? the other night I watch as Nick Swisher hit a single
& then was laughing & joking around with the Mariners first baseman.
John McGraw would have gone apeshit! He instructed all his player to
treat the opposing team as the enemy!!! Not even to talk to them in
any civil way.

Another story. The Babe was usually bench jockeyed a lot because of
his negroid features. It upset him so much that one day between games
of a double header he burst into the visiting team's locker room &
stated..."Hey, I don't care if you call me a c**ksucker or
motherf**er..but lay off that personal s**t!!!"

In the "old days" there was usually a bench player who was the
designated bench jockey who would yell out the most profane insults to
upset the opposing players & if he got thrown out of the game...who
cared??/

Do modern teams still bench jockey?????

we live in a pretty PC world these days and most players seem pretty chummy with one another, for the most part, so my guess is no. and if it is done, i'm guessing it's pretty mild stuff.

Not so much, but I think you'll see some of it when the Cardinals and
Reds play. Still some bad blood running two years after the home plate
scrum started by Brandon Phillips.
