Posednik, Luis Vizciano and a PTBNL. Did the sox do this for money? I would
rather have Lee than these players....

The Sox did this because Ozzie Guillen is an idiot.
Let me explain. Ozzie thinks that "speed and defense" wins games. Sure,
those things are important. But you also have to tailor your team to your
ballpark. Since the remodeling at the Cell, it has become a launching pad.
It had the 6th highest park factor for home runs last year of *ANY*
ballpark.
So what does Ozzie ask his GM to do? Get rid of one of his best home run
hitters. And darnitall, he has to trade him into our division. That means
he'll play six games at Wrigley Field, where he's always hit well, instead
of three.

Doesn't Lee have pretty good speed? He always has good stolen base
totals....

He does, though I wouldn't consider him fast, nor is he a particularly good
outfielder.

I have a point to make here. Isn't Ken Williams, as the General
Manager, the boss over Mr. Guillen? It's Ozzie's job to manage the
players that the GM puts on his major league roster. While you want
your GM and manager to have a partnership in which the manager has input
into major decisions, it's still up to the GM to make the final
decisions. If Williams doesn't agree with what Ozzie wants, then he's
an idiot for letting Ozzie have his way. And he's an idiot if he does
agree with him because it sounds like Lee was traded for little more
than a sack of potatoes. Too bad we can't talk them into taking Sosa
back to the south side...

I think Guillen has been given wide latitude because of his popularity
among Sox fans, and Williams has gone along with it, yes, partly because
he's an idiot.

My best friend came into work tonight and had some very choice and
unflattering words to describe his total lack of admiration for Ozzie
Guillen. I'm sure he's not the only one who feels that way at the moment.
If Guillen and Williams are trying to recreate the Go-Go White Sox, then
they need better pitching. They don't seem to have much left to trade
except for Konerko. I wouldn't want to go into next season with Thomas
as the only proven run producer in the lineup considering his fragility
over the last few seasons.

I'm GLAD The Crew got rid of Podsednik. He can steal a boat-load of bases
for you guys, but his batting average AND on-base % are both terrible.
Vizcaino can pitch like he's Cy Young himself, but with guys on base, he
more closely resembles Bert Young. LMAO

I would be shocked if Lee plays a game for the Brewers. In this deal, they
picked up several milllion in salary. That is not their usual m.o.

an admitedly faster player with virtually no power and poor OBP (and a throw
in pitcher). Dye is a step down from Mags, Posednik is a step down from
either Rowand or Lee (And since Posednik is a CF, this bodes poorly for
Rowand...). Its also not too bright on the part of the Brewers... uh they
are no longer in the AL and, frankly, even though he is much better at
defense than he was, Lee belongs in the AL where he can DH once in a
while... and he is going to use up a good deal of the Brewer Budget.
The other "frustration" is that it looks like the cost for Lee was pretty
low. Too bad the Cubs didn't get him.

Word is Thomas may not play till June. As I said yesterday, the Cell is now
a launching pad, and the Sox are doing speed and defense. They'll be hard-
pressed to win 70 games next year.

I'd prefer to just sign JD Drew who is a lefty and much better
defensively. He'll cost a bit more money but it won't require the Cubs
to give up players.

Since I'm a Tigers fan, that prospect don't bother me none in the least. I
couldn't be happier about the move.
Carlos Lee was basically worth 4-5 wins over Podsednik all by himself.
