On May 11, 1998, Chicago Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood, following his 20-strikeout game against the Houston Astros, had a masterful outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks, striking out 13 players in a winning effort. However, after the game, he was quoted by USA Today as saying something... even though it wasn't true in the slightest bit. And chaos ensued because of it.
