How many people had brain farts on that play? The 1st baseman,
the catcher, the second baseman, the umpires AND JAVY.

Of course, the first baseman should have gone back to bag once
Javy started backing up the line. The second baseman should have
moved to cover first as soon as the first baseman started going
up the line to home plate. The catcher should have tagged Javy
instead of trying to tag Contreras at the plate. The home plate
umpire probably could have called Javy out for running out of the
base line when moved into the infield near the plate. And Javy
needed a second or so after Contreras scored to realize that he
needed to get to first base. Since the out at first would be a
force play, it didn't matter that Contreras had crossed home
plate already and his "run" wouldn't count.

It looked like something out of T-ball. It was fun to watch since
it benefited the Cubs, but I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that MLB
puts in a new rule next off-season to make such a maneuver an
automatic out.
