Some might have a good reason to contest this comment, but I'm going to say it. The greatest catch that I'd ever seen by a center fielder wasn't made by Landis, Berry, Agee, Lemon, Law, Rowand or anyone that played as a regular CF - including WIllie Mays. And after watching all those players throughout that half-century+ years, I believe the last out of game #164 versus Minnesota in 2008 that led to the team's last playoff was the most critical and astonishing play that I'd ever seen. Such grit, risk and determination was made by Brian Anderson. Does anyone else have a more memorable one? Otherwise, just bug-off!

I'm drawing a blank on that one.

Actually it was game #163. The last game of that season (on a Monday) was an earlier season postponement with Detroit. Freddy Garcia pitched for Detroit and the win gave the Sox a tie with Minnesota. Game #163 was called the "black-out" game where the final score was 1-0. Jim Thome hit a home run to the center field stands and was the lone score. Top of the ninth and an extremely fast Minnesota team was threatening with two out. I forget who hit the line-drive to right-center and it looked as though it was going to go through when Anderson sprinted like a cheetah and dived to catch the ball as it was coming down. Had it gone through, it would have probably been an inside-the-parker.

Certainly I'd seen great catches, but this one was the most critical at a critical moment. I wasn't a Brian Anderson fan, but for all he was ever worth, that play was the payoff. The Sox then went on to lose to a more determined Tampa team.

Sorry Tom, I actually thought there were men on bases when Anderson made that catch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9x9HXf-5Ew
I went to youtube to see if there was a video of it and there was. The RF appears to be backing him up, but it was nonetheless, an astounding play.
I don't know if you've ever searched YouTube for highlight videos, etc. but they have many - wished I had all my Bulls Championship videos with M.J. I'm currently watching a complete game with the 1983 WS vs. Milwaukee in July - interesting WBBS Sportsvision commercial broadcast. For any near winter day, baseball is a remedy for the cold. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dopj1VhnpQo
