Kenny Williams gets slammed by a lot of people (mainly Cubbie fans,
such as "BubbaMike") but the Brandon McCarthy for John Danks and Nick
Masset was an incredible trade for the Sox.
KUDOS TO KENNY!
Danks has been great, but let's not forget about Alexi Ramirez. The
kid can really play second base and
what an arm.
Who found him?
I don't know if anyone, outside of player personnel in the Cuban
baseball system, can claim to have found Alexei. But I understand
that you mean who in the Sox system recommended Alexei? No doubt
there are a few Sox scouts involved, but in the end kudos to Kenny!
Were there any bad deals made in the 2007-08 off season by Kenny Williams?
Acquisitions by trade:
Carlos Quentin
Orlando Cabrera
Nick Swisher
Free Agents:
Alexi Ramirez
Scot Linebrink
Octavio Dotel
Dewayne Wise
2006-07 acquisitions contributing big time this year:
Toby Hall
Nick Masset
John Danks
Gavin Floyd
Everybody else is homegrown in our system or has been with the team
since/before 2005, with the exception of Esteban Loaiza, who so far is still
getting in shape as a league-mimimum salary purchase a couple of weeks ago.
Williams has been slammed here regularly since 2006 for his deals, but as
they all start to gel together, he is looking like the executive of the year
again.
One thing you have to respect about Kenny is that he has a concept of
what type of team and player he wants and goes after it-not just the
big name. I never even had any real problems with some of his busts
because the move at time made sense to me (with the possible exception
of the Swisher thing-I'm still not sold on that one.)
