Who might be the opening day starter ? Should we go with Lester,
Beckett or option X ?

Who gets "thrown to the wolves" up against Verlander ?

I'd throw Beckett to the wolves. Let's see if he's "new and improved"
right off the bat.

Beckett excels in clutch while Verlander sucks at it. Check their world
series stats, Sarge. Unfortunately nobody told Beckett that September can be
clutch, too. So how Beckett does in April depends on whether he considers it
to be clutch or not. Verlander, of course, is good from April to September.
If making it to the post-season is the limit of your ambitions, Verlander
and Tom Brady are your guys. I will take Eli and Beckett's factor X over
them any day.

Since clubs typically go with 4-man rotation for first 15-16 days of the
season when there are many off-days, the opening day starter is likely to
pitch again in the 5th game.

This year it may help the club if it goes with 4-man rotation all the way to
All-Star break.

Verlander was ridden hard over the season. Under the circumstances, he
did well. And he pitched decent in the post season tis year --- not
stellar, but good.

Brady, of course is one of the greatest season and post season QBs of
all time.And he played exceptionally well in SB 46 --- at least the
equal of Eli against a tougher defense with his most important weapon
injured. And his receivers with the dropsies. Eli has had two half
seasons of genuine excellence and pretty average for the rest.
