# What will Theo's 1st move of 2010 be? 1st move of 2009 was to sign
Nick Green to minor league deal. Rocco was 1st major league signing.

He already made his first move. Yesterday afternoon he took a big
dump. Later he said "Ahhhhhhhhh".

I hope Theo's big first decision in 2010 will be NOT to sign Adrian
frickin' Beltre to a 2,3, or 4 year deal(his agent is looking for 3 or
4 years). Hopefully Theo and company have already decided against
signing the 1 year wonder Adrian Beltre.

@ Mortimer: Totally agree. I'd be OK if Beltre was cheap like Mueller:
"underrated, great D, Fenway will help." Big bucks/long-term? Pass.

@ Mortimer: Feliz is a free-swinging righty guess hitter with good
glove. He got 1 yr/$4.5M. Hell, I'd rather have that than Beltre 3/27!

about a hundred years ago, was the first true sabermetrician.

I'll throw out a name for 3B....(assuming Lowell is a 'goner')

Alex Gordon of Kansas City.

He was the highest rating player in the minors in 2006.....

.....started slowly in 2007.....

.....developed a bit in 2008....

.....then had a tough injury ridden 2009....

He begins his first year of arbitration this year.

If his price goes up and KC is disappointed in his development I would
love to trade for him.

Why?

He has a remarkable pedigree......

2003 Big 12 All-Tournament Team
2003 Honorable-Mention All-Big 12
2003 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American
2004 First-Team All-Big 12
2004 Big 12 Player of the Year.
2004 NCBWA District VI Player of the Year
2004 First Team All-American
2004 Baseball America First Team Summer All-American
2005 Big 12 All-Tournament Team
2005 First Team All-Big 12
2005 Big 12 Player of the Year
2005 NCBWA District VI Player of the Year
2005 First Team All-American
2005 Baseball America Player of the Year
2005 ABCA National Player of the Year
2005 Brooks Wallace Award Winner
2005 Dick Howser Trophy Winner
2005 Golden Spikes Award Winner
2005 ESPY Award Finalist for Male College Athlete of the Year
2006 Baseball America Double-A All-Star
2006 MLB.com Double-A Offensive Player of the Year
2006 Baseball America Minor League All-Star
2006 Texas League Player of the Year
2006 Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year

His minor league development was rushed. After one year in the
minors (AA) he made the Major League team in 2007.

He was put in the middle of the Royals lineup but with little help he
did struggle a bit.

His second season development was good for someone his age. His
first two full years in league he had a better OPS than Ellsbury had
in his first two full seasons.

This kid has a lot of talent and someone is going to get the benefit
of it pretty soon.

He has all the tools.

Okay. Now what do you suppose it would take? Hey...I'm open to anything.
But he really doesn't seem to be much more of a sure thing than say Kotchman
who could also improve and live up to past expectations of his promise given
a fair chance. In other words...the grass is always greener...

Theo has a pretty good record of acquiring this type of player...we usually
don't get excited till they catch or fail. Hermida is another like this in
the OF. It can always go either way. But most of us are always looking for
the big splash. I give you credit for the thought process. It fairly
replicates how I think Theo and his brain trust operate.

@ Wayback: I always like the kind of reclamation project Gordon could
be. The Royals are in their own alternate reality, so who knows?
