6:00pm: SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Cardinals and Matt
Holliday have finalized a seven-year, $120MM contract. Heyman says
the deal includes a full no-trade clause.
That guy is worth nearly 20 million a year?

No but he is the best hitter in a weak off-season bunch.

These no-trade clause are no longer about offering a player some security or
stability but about offering the player leverage should he brought up in
trade talks.
Still doesn't explain why the Cards negotiated against itself. When
Pujols becomes a free agent, he's going to want at least $25M per
year. How can the Cards afford both Holiday and the best hitter in
baseball when their two salaries would be $43M or more?
Plus paying Wainwright and Carpenter.
Just be happy the Yanks didn't grab him. And that they shouldn't be in the
market for a Pujols either.
They probably had to go seven years to get Holliday to agree to defer
two million a year.
$15 million per yr shouldn't be too much of a burden for St Louis.
They are not a small market team.
If the Cards decide they don't have enough money to put some good
players around Pujols their best bet would be to trade him.
No, they shouldn't be, but that doesn't mean that they won't be.
BTT
Which do you suppose would be happy as a DH? Pujols or Teixeira? Do you
really think they're that nuts to pay the sick money it would take for a DH,
completely blowing up the salary structure of baseball? I think there might
be a point where the other team owners will reach the breaking point over
that type of fiscally irresponsible largesse.

In left? I guess St. Louis had a good reason to make him a first baseman.

Who gives a shit. Go troll the Yankees news group with your crap.
Gee...and here I was thinking they'd convert him to catch.
Nope. They'll want him to pitch.
