When one considers what many other former baseball players have done,
this continuing obsession of punishing Pete Rose is ridiculous. He
deserved his banishment for a prolonged period, but enough is enough.

Rule 21: "Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee,
who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection
with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared
permanently ineligible."

Permanently....not prolonged.

That was the rule when Pete Rose played....that was the rule that Pete
Rose understood....that was the rule that Pete Rose broke.

So what's the problem?

Having nothing to do with the HOF or MLB, this ploy would seem to be a
conspiracy to drive the price of existing Pete Rose baseball cards
up. Perhaps Pete is in on this as well. Heh heh....

The North American Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY is owned and
operated by private interests.

For Major League Baseball to dictate who is eligible is crazy! MLB has NO
jurisdiction over a private enterprise dedicated to
baseball. They need to put Pete into the hall. Ban him from baseball as
the rule states but not from a private museum!

Technically Major League Baseball is not banning Pete Rose from the
Hall of Fame.

MLB has put Rose on their "Ineligible List'

The Hall of Fame, in their infinite private entity wisdom, says in
Rule 3.E.:

"3.E. Any player on Baseball's ineligible list shall not be an
eligible candidate."

Pete's out...and needs to stay out. No number of hits erase his
actions.

The HOF needs to throw out a few more guys who disgraced the game too.

Not really. Private or not...it would be pretty tough to operate without
the blessing and cooperation of MLB.

You DO realize that MLB is a "private" concern as well. And has it's own
rules. That even the great Pete Rose is subject to.

Why accept such a ban if he wasn't guilty?
Was he trying to keep his bookies' name out of the papers?

BTW, he 'accepted' the ban on the basis of Rule 21, which was posted
prior to your/this post.

He tried very hard to stall the whole thing,(injunctions/suits, etc.)
