J.D. Drew, who hit his first spring homer on Saturday, went 3-for-3
with two RBI in Boston's 16-6 rout of Cincinnati on Saturday. Drew
thinks that hitting out of David Ortiz's footprints caused him
problems in his first year in the AL, so he's digging out his own
holes in the batter's box this spring. He is batting .360 with a 4/6
K/BB ratio in 25 at-bats.

It took him 176 games to figure that out?

Who cares. He carried the Red Sox in the Cleveland series.

That one swing...all was forgiven.
no. but it gets him a 2nd chance.
That one swing was huge, but he did more than just that - 0.360 BA for
the series.
Most importantly on all levels, I hope Drew's son is healthy. That
may not have been *the* cause for J.D.'s subpar regular season, but it
could very well have been a factor. Hopefully the kid is doing a lot
better, and between that and Drew's triumphant October, he'll be much
more comfortable this season from the get-go. Remember, prior to
2007, there was never a question about Drew's productivity when
healthy--the issue was always that he missed so many games. It would
be a major boost to the lineup (and insurance against other players
falling/getting hurt) if Drew could put up the kind of stats he had
that year in Atlanta. He's a damned good baseball player.

Earned his pay in Sept and the playoffs.
And if he does, this will be a very potent offense.
I think that was a bigger factor than most give it credit for, but yeah,
here's hoping the youngster is doing better.
