It's nice to be this hopeful - but it's still April, and while
15 - 7 is a very pleasant surprise, it's still way to soon to
count these chicks.
Cheers,

I'm with you. I'm VERY pleased, but it's early yet. Every team goes
through down periods each year, every team goes through injuries. If
the O's continue to play this way during those inevitable "trying
times," then I'll not only be ON the bandwagon.....I'll be drivin' it.
:-)
After seeing tonight's attendance figures, I wonder when the rest of
Baltimore is going to wake up and realize we're in first place and we
are playin' some damn good ball!!! Sad, sad, sad. The low attendance
figures just add fuel to Angelos' fire that the area can't support two
major league teams.
Ohhhhh, and although it is still early yet and although I love Brian
Roberts to pieces, I'd have to go with Miggy for AL MVP (with Brian
getting Orioles MVP). My 2¢ -- take it for what it's worth. :-)

24,910 isn't bad for April for a game against the Rays on a Friday
night. Jim Hunter did note that they had about 5,000 "walk ups"
for the "Student Night" promotion.
The whole thing depends on the O's winning!
It they keep winning, the fans will get excited about this team.

Talking MVP IN APRIL!?!?!?
Hey -- don't hang that one on me. The original poster started that
mess. :-) I just said I could see Miggy getting AL MVP over Roberts.
*I* know it's waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy too early. Let's see how
Brian, Miggy, and the rest of the boys are doing in mid-to-late August.
THEN, we can talk MVP. ;-)
LOL!
I know! And I agree with you that Miggy has the best chance in the
long run.
It is nice to see Brian on a roll though aint it?!?!?!
I am sooo happy that the O's game against Wakefield in Boston got
rained out. Nothing will screw up hitters like a knuckler....
Yeah -- considering he has a longer "history" (for lack of a better
term) in the league than Brian, I see Miggy more in line for league
awards.

Yes, it is. I'm very happy about his success this year. Although I
liked Jerry Hairston, too, I'm glad the O's finally rectified that
situation at second base. How's Jerry doing with the Cubbies -- anyone
know? Last time I checked, he had minimal ABs. But didn't the Cubs
regular 2B (Todd Walker, I think?) go down with an injury? Is Jerry
playing more now? I wish him tons of success too. Hopefully, that
trade turns out to be as successful for Jerry as it has been for Brian.

Ohhhhh, I'm sure they would've found a way to win. I wonder if Johnny
Oates and/or Chuck Thompson are pulling some strings in the afterlife.
;-)

Went to the game this afternoon vs. Devil Rays. O's won 7-4.
Chen stuck out 7. Three looking.
He has virtually no pick-off move, since they seemed to be running at
will.
He allowed the lead-off runner to get on base every inning but one.
Mazilli brought in Kline for one inning and he struck out the side but
allowed a BB sandwiched in there. Then, the next inning we say
Williams for some strange reason, IMO, who promptly gave up a HR.
Sosa looked lazy out in the field, giving up on a ball that went off
the scoreboard ear-high, and later failed to sprint to a lazy fly that
fell foul.
Park stated 30K in attendance but there must have been about 10K
no-shows.
GO ORIOLES!

Todd has been great against lefties and righties. I was not upset that
Maz called him in.

He always does that. He's pretty good out there and he knows what
balls he can reach ( he's not THAT fast...).

I watched the game on the tube and later watched the Nats vs Mets
on ESPN.
John Miller (ESPN) said there were about 19,000 @ OPACY so your guess
would be about the same.
Good News:
1. The Mora homer that O's broadcaster Buck Martinez insisted was
clearly a foul was replayed by ESPN and John Miller (correctly) noted
that it was indeed a homer because it hit the foul line in front of
the pole. (They replayed the same footage...)
2. Joe Morgan (correctly) noted that Miggy is the best player in
baseball. He also said that Raffy and Sosa will heat up and the O's
will get even better. Yeah! Joe!
3. The Nats fans have been introduced to the (not so unique)
phenomenon of visiting (NY) fans cheering loudly in their home
ballpark. They had a nice little shouting match going on late in the
game.
;)
PS
Frank Robinson wears a Nationals' uniform. Maz wears the hat, but
not the jersey...
What is up with that?
Jerry is a great guy, but we did the right thing:

Aint the beer cold!
Hey! Maybe this could be another "Why Not" season.
Boston is sending players to the DL every-other day and the Yankee$
(THE ONLY TEAM IN HISTORY TO BLOW A 3-0 LEAD-NEVER LET THEM FORGET
THAT ONE!!!!!!!)
continue to set Yankee$ records for sucking.

Maybe he feels the blousie slicker hides his beer gut? ;^)

I agree completely. It would be great if the O's made it to the World
Series and Roberts was league MVP.
I live in Vermont, where most baseball fans cheer for either the Red
Sox or Yankees. It's been a long time since I could yuck it up with
them about the AL East standings and I intend to do so for as long as
possible. :-)
