I don't know what the DISHnetwork offers but I do know that DirecTV offers
packages with Fox sportssouth...totalchoice gold which includes 20 regional
sports channels..totalchoice platinum includes those same 20 channels plus
32 premium movie channels. You can also purchase MLB extra innings which
costs about $120/season...with the combination of the those 2 packages and
TBS and ESPN you arent likely to miss too many games.

DISH offers regional sports networks for $4.99 a month [defined in a moment]
but is NOT a good choice if you want to watch actual baseball games. The
reason below...

If you get the TC Gold or Platinum packages you get access to all the regional
sports networks nationwide [just as with the DISH package noted above], but you
do NOT get first-run games on those networks. What you do get is:
1- Non-game programming [shows about teams, Fox Sports News, pre-game shows,
and other filler].
2- Tape-delayed games. If a sports network reruns a game that aired earlier,
or runs one for the first time on tape-delay, then you get to see it.

Buying this package unlocks the games on the regional sports networks. It
*might* also give access to game feeds from local stations, but I don't know
this for sure.
One point of significance to Braves fans: Turner South is NOT available as a
full-time channel on DirecTV or DISH Network. BUT.. Turner South feeds of
Hawks and Thrashers games are available if you have the NBA or NHL packages.
Based on the commercials I saw during a Thrashers game, Turner South sounds a
lot like TBS/TNT, showing sports but also movies and the like. But that's a
discussion for another day...
>with the combination of the those 2 packages and

The key is whether DirecTV will do like they do with NBA/NHL and pass on Turner
South games to full package subscribers. If they do, you'll be in great shape.
If not, you'll have to try and find those games on the channel of the opposing
team.
One advantage of ESPN on DirecTV is that on Wednesday nights you get all 4
games. They have a "primary" 7:30 and 10:30 game that most of the country sees
on cable, but also "backup" 7:30 and 10:30 games for areas that are local to
the "primary" teams. ESPN isn't allowed to show them on cable in those areas
because of the blackout rules. But with the DirecTV feed, you get all 4 ESPN
games.
