And here begins this year's round of "sign some fungible bullpen arms
and see if any of them work out." I seem to recall there were trade
rumors around the Braves and Proctor a few years ago. Betemit for
Proctor maybe?

I suggest we name this obligatory minor league contract The John
Smoltz Is Too Good For Us NRI. This is the slot that Smoltz would be
taking if he wasn't a self-righteous primadonna.

I think you're right, yes. Worth a whirl, anyway, especially this year
when they don't know what'll happen with teh closer situation.

I was going to suggest the "Rudy Seanez Memorial NRI", as I'm having
problems thinking of a NRI earlier than Seanez who worked out as well
as he did. But the Smoltz Is Too Good For Us spot works just as well.
