Not much on this provincial billiard table maker I'm afraid. This
may be of some use :

Fitzpatrick & Longley (Sheffield) were established in 1843.

In 1921 they were operating from Lady's Bridge, Sheffield,
supplying the "Eclipse" Low Frostproof Cushion which they did
until at least 1932.

In 1926 they were advertising themselves as Fitzpatrick & Longley
Ltd. supplying the "Club" table.

[From the Billiard Player December 1932] We much regret to state
that the death occurred at his home, Osmaston, Totley Rise,
Sheffield, on November 7, of Mr. Bernard Fitzpatrick LongIey,
managing director of the firm of Messrs. Fitzpatrick and Longley,
billiard table builders, and secretary of the Sheffield Billiard
Halls Co., Ltd. He was 67 years of age. He was not quite 20 years
old when he joined the firm of Fitzpatrick and Longley -- founded
by his grandfather about 90 years ago.

Taken over by E.A. Clare & Sons in 1950

Just had a thought .... Clare & Sons still exists but are now
trading as "Thurston". Their MD, Peter Clare is very approachable
and helpful. You may find that they still have detailed records
on the company. Last I heard they were at :

48-48 St. Anne Street, Liverpool L3 3DW
Tel : 0151-207-1336

If you get any more information, I wouldn't mind a copy :)

There is a trophy in the Sheffield League with the name Fitzpatrick &
Longley on (presumably as sponsor)
The archives of the Sheffield Star & Sheffield Daily Telegraph should reveal
quite a bit on information...
Also check out the book: Snooker's Crucible published in 1988 which has
quite a lot of local Sheffield info - intertwined into the story of The
Crucible - Fitzpatrick and Longley are mentioned as setting up in 1843 to
supply an increasing demand for billiard tables.
Also in the book Bernard Fitzpatrick is listed at High Street in 1863 and
there is a picture taken in the 1920s featuring Walter Donaldson - with the
scoreboard bearing the name Fitzpatrick & Longley, Billiard Table Builders,
Sheffield

I have a one piece Fitzpatrick & longley cue which states Fitzpatrick & longley ltd 1943 , is it safe to say the cue was made in 1943 ? How can I date it ? I assume if Clare's took them over in 1950 then the cue can be at least 63/64 yrs old ??????
