Hi. . .

If you are from New England, NY, NJ pr PA and you are a USRA
member -- most of you will have received an application in
the mail by now. For your information, the tournament
information is also available on the internet at:
http://neRACQUETBALL.COM/1999_regionals_application.htm

My thanks to Stan Shaw III and especially Stan Shaw IV (the
younger one) who did a SPECTACULAR JOB of translating the
actual application into the web page.

I would like to encourage you to submit your application via
Email. As a reminder -- all information on the form is
required -- INCLUDING CREDIT CARD DATA.

Spread the word. . . There is no regional in New York this
year. We will have a substantial number of players from New
York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania -- as well as the New England
states. This should be huge -- and the competition should
be awesome.

We will be playing very early AND very late.

Any questions??? Email me -- or call me at 603-367-8533.

See you there. . .

Chris. . .

Those are the JUNIOR REGIONALS for region 2.

This tournament is the ADULT REGIONALS.

The region 1 (New England) junior regionals will be at the
Racquet's Edge in Essex Junction, VT -- just outside of
Burlington, VT. -- on the May 14-16 weekend.

I recently purchased two new E-Force racquets. One was a Terror and the
other was a Torrent. I have access to digital scales at my work place that
are very accurate. I checked the weight of the Terror, which is 200g before
strung and it turned out to be about 222.5g with strings. As for the Torrent
it claims to be 220g before stringing, but I have not had a chance to weigh
this yet. When I played with it, it felt very heavy, I guess my question
would be how much should the difference be between a strung racquet and an
unstrung racquet. To me 22g +/- seems excessive. Any input would be
appreciated.

I think most racquet companies advertise the unstrung weight of the
racquet. Some, like E-Force, also tell you the weight with strings, and
it is usually about 15 grams more than the unstrung weight. The
Torrent's weight is advertised as 220 grams (unstrung), so it probably
weighs about 235-240 grams with strings. The 15 gram difference is
probably an average for a typical racquet. The strings might weigh more
in a racquet that uses more string, such as E-Force's LongString
racquets. Another factor could be the gauge of the string - 16 gauge
string probably weighs slightly more than 17 or 18 gauge string. Next
time you restring your Torrent, cut the strings out of the racquet and
weigh them, and also weigh the racquet without strings. Then weigh the
racquet after the new strings are in. It would be interesting to know
what those weights are.

Interesting! I had no idea how much string weighed? Never thought about it
before either. Now that I am thinking (...ahem!!!), I guess a vibration
dampener and/or grip change and/or head tape could change the racquet's
balance point too. I've gone and done all three! What have I done?

...small things amuse small minds. Me! ;->

Carry on, ...I'm listening.
