No, I don't see this post.

But anyway, if a news server doesn't receive your post, there's
nothing you can do about it. Changing servers won't help (usually).
Although, it's very rare that a news server doesn't pick up news
articles. Most will all the time.

Okay, pardon the double reply... I already sent
the obligatory, "I didn't get it"

But, it reminded me of a true and funny story I
thought you guys (and gals, if that term is
politically correct) might like.

A couple years ago, the software company I was
working for moved the tech support dept. to
Dallas. I was out there for about six months
getting things set up. This application handled
sending faxes from within the program. We got a
fax from someone saying they knew their support
agreement had expired, but wanted us to confirm
whether we got the fax or not.

I wrote on his original fax, "I'm sorry I can't
confirm or deny that we received your fax due to
the fact that your support agreement has expired.
Please feel free to send us another document with
your credit card number and we'll be happy to
acknowledge that we received it". Then I faxed it
back to him.

Funny thing is, we never got the card number.

MM,
The problem that news servers have is not picking up posts. All news
servers pick up posts (That's their job). The problem that Usenet has is
forwarding what has been picked up. Because of the traffic that it would
require, news servers do no verification that the posts that they have
forwarded made it to the rest of the servers on the network. That is why
some people see posts and others do not. Like the posts that start out Re:.
The original posters server forwarded it but only a few of the news servers
actually got it. Now the best way around this is for someone to develop a
program that allows you to have multiple news servers attached to one list
window. Allowing it to go out and pick up messages from each server.
Comparing them, take out the duplicates and show them in a list. Hmmmmm I
think I know someone that could do that...<g> That is how Deja gets such a
complete list of messages. The only prob with them though is it is not real
time. Any just a quick 101 on how news servers work, from your tech guru...

SSCS<--- I know a little about a lot of things.... Or wait, no.... I know a
lot about little things.... Uhhh no... Uhhhh...

It's been good for me too, although I wish they carried
alt.sport.snooker.
